The GM Authority Take
GMC Canyon sales moved up a spot from the previous quarter in the midsize mainstream pickup truck segment during the fourth quarter of 2023, placing ahead of the all-new 2024 Ford Ranger as The Blue Oval’s next-generation truck goes through a generational changeover. GM was similarly impacted at the beginning of the past year, and the UAW strike at the GM Wentzville plant took its toll on GMC Canyon sales during the final quarter of 2023. As a result, Colorado and Canyon inventory was down to just 29 days supply in September.
However, sales of GM’s two midsize pickups combined placed second overall.
Beyond Ford, other competitors have upped their game as well. The refreshed 2024 Jeep Gladiator will arrive early this year, while the all-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma, already the undisputed sales leader in the segment, just arrived to continue challenging the Canyon and all other entries in this space.
About GMC Canyon
A year ago, GM unveiled the all-new 2023 GMC Canyon as the all-new third generation of the midsize pickup, featuring new exterior styling, an overhauled cabin, a new powertrain, and a range of tech goodies. It also introduced the first-ever 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X, which is available with an exclusive Edition 1 package. After a somewhat rocky start in deliveries, units of the new truck finally began to trickle into dealers, and GMC Canyon sales began to improve.
In total, there are four trim levels available, including Elevation, AT4, AT4X, and Denali.
The 2023 GMC Canyon was among NACTOY’s “Best of 2024” as one of five semifinalist trucks in the Truck of the Year category. The Canyon was joined by the Chevy Colorado and Chevy Silverado EV.
This past summer, the first-ever 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition made its debut, joining the Canyon family by taking the off-road capability of the Canyon AT4XÂ to the next level thanks to several trail-ready upgrades over the standard 2023 Canyon AT4X, framed as “the most advanced and capable Canyon ever.” Incidentally, the 2024 Canyon AT4X and AT4X AEV Edition will both get a new launch control feature as part of the Baja Mode, improving performance both on-road and off-road. Consequently, the 2024 Canyon drops the AT4X Edition 1 variant, which will be indirectly replaced by the aforementioned AT4X AEV Edition.
It’s worth noting that the 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition and 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison share the same suspension configuration, which enables both trucks to stand tall with an identical 12.2 inches of ground clearance. However, there is one small difference, which we outlined in this report.
GM also revealed that all trim levels of the 2024 Canyon will integrate Ultifi, the automaker’s new end-to-end vehicle software platform. Some potential uses of Ultifi include interfacing with the owner’s smart home, which could include functions such as switching on security systems when the owner leaves and turning them off when they return, changing the home temperature, and much more.
Additionally, the 2024 GMC Canyon gets GM’s TurboMax engine branding as the official name of the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine in the High-Output tune. The boosted four is the sole powertrain offered on all 2023 and 2024 Canyon trims.
Production of the 2024 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon was pushed back to January, with shipments delayed further due to a stop-sale, though some units finally started making their way to dealers in February.

Is it possible that the Gmc numbers are down because GM can’t get their $hit together and build and deliver them in a reasonable time frame..on a personal note I find it a joke that gm is trying to off load any 2023 canyons at FULL retail..who in there right mind would buy a yr old truck from a dealer with no discount incentives …some one at GM needs a spanking

Not only that, in 2021 I bought a new Colorado ZR2 in black with black rims and roll bar with halogen bush lights. Paid $49,000 Canadian with my retiree discount. Corresponding with a salesman on a new 2024, he sends me the link….$80,824!!!!!! And that’s with a dealer discount of $810. Are you fu$&in’ kidding me. Don’t believe me, look up Davis Chevrolet in Airdrie Alberta. Absolute insanity.
I’m guessing this clown will not be selling any
How could any GM Canyon or Colorado be sold when there weren’t any hardly from Aug to a few in December, and Toyota was still filling orders from Rentals Companies so there’s no actual comparison, Unless some get shipped the first qtr of 24 will be 90% off
It’s no wonder Canyon sales are down. After months of looking, I finally was able to find a 2023 Canyon AT4X. Dealers were marking them up as much as $10,000 over MSRP. I was looking long before the UAW strike. For some reason, GM doesn’t appear to be interested in selling the Colorado or Canyon. All their emphasis seems to be on the full size models. Too bad, because it’s a great truck. The size, the looks, the performance are all top notch.
It’s odd since they made a great truck and it appears they put a lot effort into it. But now they are nowhere to be found. This doesn’t make sense.
My best friend ordered a GMC Canyon in Mid-July, 2023. In December the order was cancelled. He then had to wait for an allocation at the local dealer. He wanted an AT4 but was only offered a Denali. He opted to spend a couple more thousand to get the Denali. The dealer told him the truck would be built the third week of March however it would take a least one month for it to be shipped. IMHO, he has a better chance of seeing Mary Barra do a cartwheel in his front yard!
Ordered a 24 denali in Nov 2023. 4 months later the dealer said he couldn’t get one..I canceled
Ordered an At4 in Jan from a high vol dealer…will I ever see it ..if I comes after Aug 2024 they can keep it…
Don’t waste your time trying to buy a Canyon, or a Colorado. The Tacoma sells almost more trucks than the rest of the field combined. Tacoma has been for a long time an AVAILABLE, reliable, strong resale truck. GM not playing here with a full deck.
TFL broke a new 2024 TRD in one inch of snow- diff exploded. No thanks.
This first year taco will likely have teething problems like any other manufacturer. Plus the dealers are all playing games, and you can’t build one you have to find an allocation you like.
Didn’t like the taco….poor field of vision, engine sounds like its running on 2 cylinders at low speed. JBL stereo sounds terrible. Lack of luxury options that I like…it may be a great vehicle for some but not me.
Ordered an AT4 in May 2023. The dealer had to reorder a 2024 in December. Got an email in February that GMC had received the order. Nothing since. The dealer is not going to charge me more for the 2024 if it ever actually gets here. I should get a deal for waiting so long. They may get to keep it if it’s much longer.
Are they really going to change the names of these 2 trucks to Yugo and Suzuki
A friend I know bought a 23 Canyon. Less than year later, he traded it in for a Sierra. Why? He had unsolvable electrical gremlins as all the windows would all of a sudden roll down uncommanded. He was driving in the pouring rain one time, and couldn’t get the windows back up. Dealership had it for two months and the dashboard removed. They still couldn’t find the problem even with head office’s help. Fortunately, his Sierra is problem free. I suspect the union boys in the plant purposely screwed things up to who knows how many units. GM vehicles are generally well designed, but the union boys determine how well they are made. I now question if I would buy a Canyon either before or after a strike.
I worked production for 32 years in Oshawa and never knew of one worker who could manipulate a wiring harness to make all 4 windows open at the same time. Common sense would dictate an outside supplier problem. Union guys just push /click /pull connectors and drive screws.
EV debacles, disastrous sales . . . how does Mary have a job?
Perhaps if the vehicles were designed properly and built correctly, there wouldn’t have been a problem.
I can’t remember a worse launch than the new Colorado & Canyon.
I was looking forward to this vehicle to be the next, but they don’t make diesel engine any more big mistakes and they raised the price to a Rolls-Royce level.
Ya there not cheap , but have you seen the price of any mid sized pick up with a decent trim level…better still look at the full size ones $ 80, 90 100+…all brands included
It’s probably because when you order one they only offer one Interior color which is a terrible color scheme

this is what happens when you forget that only the government can print money… your buyers dont have that luxury
no worries, marry msrp barra will raise destination fee to 5000 so atp will go up as sales fall off the mariana trench…
Give it a 6 cyl again instead of an over- stressed 4.
Who in their right mind here would disapprove ???
tired of only 4 door trucks and 4 cylinder gas trucks bring back 2.8 diesel
I agree with the comment regarding the worst launch of the new gm mid sized pick up. Ok so here is the $66000 question.. why can’t gm build and deliver the 2024 canyon/ Colorado. And not to get picky but toyota dealers only have one taco demo per dealer…

I ended up buying out my 2019 because a new one was not available The transmission has never worked properly The general won’t fix because there is no fault code This is my third Colorado and I hate it but I can’t get a replacement
I ordered a ’23 Canyon AT4 in July, to replace my ’17 Colorado – and I’m REALLY getting tired of the Ignition Key Tug-o’-War thing…anyway:
Following the strike and the ‘quality control’ delays, my salesman finally advised me it had been built (as a ’24) and provided me with a VIN on 1/22/24…then the ‘Sell-Hold’ order while the software engineers rewrote the code for the Infotainment System and repaired existing production. On 3/6, he advised it was “bayed: ready” at the lot in MO. It popped up on my dealer’s Website the next day – MY VIN, as ‘Best Seller’ & in-transit. Still waiting, in-transit, and Wisconsin isn’t that far from Missouri last time I looked at a map…I’ve got $2,000 worth of stuff I’ve purchased to put on this truck, so I’m locked in, but getting damn tired of the wait.
I thought of purchasing accessories for mine BUT the way things are going I’ll wait untill I have my hands on it…IF THAT EVER HAPPENS.
