While releasing new details about the 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition, GM revealed that all trim levels of the Canyon’s 2024 model year will integrate the automaker’s new end-to-end vehicle software platform Ultifi.
GM has outfitted the 2024 GMC Canyon with several advanced technologies, with Ultifi giving the capability to add new programmed functions and features to existing hardware via future over-the-air software updates.
Ultifi acts as a “central nervous system” for the 2024 GMC Canyon and other vehicles equipped with it. Based on GM’s Vehicle Intelligence Platform (VIP) or Global B electric architecture, Ultifi will make the Canyon highly connected and customizable.
Some potential uses of Ultifi include interfacing with the owner’s smart home, which could include functions such as switching on security systems when the owner leaves and turning them off when they return, changing the home temperature, and similar utilities.
Ultifi may use facial recognition to start the engine and, once on the road, could enhance the effectiveness of safety systems. GM chose to base Ultifi on Linux software, making it possible for third-party programmers to develop Ultifi software applications in areas of the platform where GM chooses to allow access.
GM CEO Mary Barra also believes Ultifi will continue making GM vehicles profitable for the company into their second and third ownerships as future owners buying the vehicles used opt to purchase upgrades modernizing their new acquisition.
The off-road and trail-ready 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition was designed jointly with overlanding vehicle specialists American Expedition Vehicles (AEV). Other new GMC vehicles built in conjunction with AEV include the GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X AEV Edition and GMC Sierra HD AT4X AEV Edition.
The 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition sports AEV beadlock-capable Salta wheels wrapped in 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires and a 1.5-inch lift added to the “regular” GMC Canyon AT4X truck’s 3-inch lift. Rugged protection is provided by stamped steel high-clearance front and rear bumpers with a winch mount and fog lights, along with five ultra-high-strength, hot-stamped Boron steel skid plates shielding vital parts of the undercarriage.
For motivation, the 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition will rely on the Turbo High-Output variant of the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, developing 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. The truck will ride on the updated GMT 31XX-2 platform.
Start of regular production (SORP) for the 2024 GMC Canyon will kick off on October 30th, 2023 at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

Does this mean no Carplay or AA on the 2024’s?
No this is behind the scene software. Android Auto and Car play are still built into the Android operating system for entertainment and other items.
this is getting just a tad to much like big brother watching us more and more.
CarPlay and Android Auto are critical features to many buyers and if Utilifi lacks them then sales will suffer. I’ve driven GM cars since the 80s and I doubt I will buy another if they drop Apple’s CarPlay.
Why does that matter, so you don’t have Apple Car play or Android Auto but you can still use all the options on your phone. The system from my understanding will let you use your phone, text messaging and music through your phone but won’t have to rely on AA or Carplay interface, which at times are not perfect. You also might not be limited to just the apps the Apple Car play and AA let you use. So it could be much better. I mean before AA and Carplay everything worked fine with out them.
I believe that CarPlay and Android Auto are only to be removed for the electric vehicles. We will see though.
Think this will run as well as the CC twins after an OTA update??
