Chevrolet Chile Sales Fall 28 Percent In December 2023

Chevrolet Chile sales decreased 28 percent to 1,842 units in December 2023. The figures place Chevrolet as the country’s third best-selling automobile brand during the month, behind Toyota and Hyundai.

Chilean auto sales figures are limited since reporting only shows the best-selling models in each segment. As such, no sales data is available for vehicles that sell in lower volumes. Nevertheless, individual Chevy model sales performance (for models for which sales data is available) was as follows:

In addition to the models specified, Chevrolet also markets the following vehicles in Chile:

During the complete 2023 calendar year, Chevrolet Chile sales decreased 43 percent to 21,319 units.

The GM Authority Take

The notable drop in Chevrolet Chile sales in December 2023 deepened the brand’s negative performance in the South American country, which currently has the second largest automotive market in the region after Brazil. The decline in December represents the 15th consecutive monthly drop suffered by Chevrolet in the Chilean market, resulting in the brand losing sales leadership for the first time in many years.

The vast majority of Chevrolet Chile models suffered substantial contractions in December, reducing the brand’s overall sales volume by 711 units on a year-over-year basis. The most significant declines were seen by the Chevy Colorado, which lost 375 units, and by the Chevy Groove, which contracted 333 units, thereby comprising nearly all of the volume lost by the brand during the month. Even so, the Groove maintained its best-selling status amongst Chevy models, while also fortifying its position as the best-selling crossover in Chile for the second consecutive year.

While the Chevy Sail suffered a slight drop in sales last month, it did manage to slow the rate of decline, achieving its best performance since the launch of the all-new 2024 Chevy Sail in November. Meanwhile, the Chevy Silverado was once again the Bow Tie’s only model that was in the green in December, thereby becoming the brand’s second best-selling vehicle. The commercial success of the Silverado as the best-selling full-size pickup significantly enhances Chevrolet’s image, while also increasing its profit margins in the South American country.
