The GM Authority Take

Chevrolet Argentina sales posted a healthy increase in October, representing the fourth consecutive month of gains in the South American country. Despite the challenging macroeconomic conditions and adverse circumstances affecting GM’s local business, both the Bow Tie brand and the entire Argentine automotive market as a whole posted healthy gains during the past month.

As usual, the primary driver of Chevrolet Argentina’s solid commercial performance in October was the best-selling Chevy Tracker. The domestically manufactured compact crossover continues to strengthen its position as Argentina’s best-selling utility vehicle, as well as the fastest growing nameplate among the 10 best-selling vehicles in the country, with an increase of almost 400 percent. The Tracker has also become the most manufactured vehicle at the GM Alvear plant in the country.

The Chevy Equinox was the second model to increase its sales volume for both the month of October as well as the year-to-date total, though maintaining fairly low sales volume. For its part, the Chevy Spin sold exactly the same amount of models on a year-over-year basis, while maintaining positive figures during the first nine months. In contrast, sales of the Chevy Cruze and Chevy Onix continue to drop with notable market share losses in the local market.

  1. Chevy sales up +17% were a bit down below par on the +30.8 % average rise in sales in Argentine car sales in October.

    1. Toyota up +8.1%
    2. VW up +40.2%
    3. Renault up +14.8%
    4. Fiat up +27%
    5. Jeep up +175.8%
Citroen (+70.5%), Nissan (+64.5%), Ford (+63.3%) and Peugeot (+32.4%) all outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10.

Jeep probably probably cashing in on everybody loves SUV’s, is the best performing brand in the top 10, Toyota not doing so well but the sales numbers are the highest always harder to push up the sales percentage in increases bar.

Chevy Tracker is the best GM’s star turn performer sales up +394.4%, and GM’s No1 best seller by a clear margin.

Notice also the Citroen C3 (+1008.5%) and Ford Maverick (+32550%) posting surreal year-on-year lifts in the model lists the best improvers in Argentina if you enjoy big jumps in percentages.

    1. Fiat Crono up +54.4%
    2. Peugeot 208 up +54.8%
    3. VW Amarok up +53.9%
    4. Toyota Hilux up +32.6%
    5. Ford Ranger up +80.4%
    6. Toyota Etios up +38.5%
    7. Renault Kangoo up +56.5%
    8. Nissan Frontier up +117.2%
    9. Chevy Tracker up +394.4%

All the best selling models are all above the 30.8% average rises in sales for October, Chevy Tracker looks like the best performer with a massive 394.4% jump in sales.

GM reports the market is reporting adverse conditions permits, Argentina are issuing permits on imports most of the market seems to flourishing up a massive 30.8% in Argentina in October. Permits can be a pain, there is a very big one coming to the EV car making world on December 1st, China is issuing permits on its graphite that is used heavily in the anode side of an EV battery’s, China owns most of the graphite market around the world and has an abundance of it at home, also processes most the of the raw materials like graphite that go into EV battery packs for the rest of the world, these Chinese graphite permits could become disruptive like Taiwan chip shortages, EU have upset China with regulations that make it harder to sell Chinese cars in Europe as they are afraid it will wipe it out, they will probably get by tit for tat graphic permit exports and China also processes most of the raw materials that go into EV’s to Wind Turbines etc very cheaply for Europe, when 2030 net zero arrives in Europe there are limited supplies of grahite elsewhere the rest of the world also wants, cost of processing raw material will go through the roof, making EV’s just the preserve of the rich few. South America will be OK their Government legislators are not so hostile to ICE vehicles as they are a lot poorer know virtually nobody can afford one, how are Chevy Bolt EV sales doing in Argentina, South America, Africa. India, and poorer regions of Asia they will probably still be running ICE cars in 2050.
