Earlier this week, GM Authority reported that General Motors had issued a stop-sale order for new units of the 2024 Chevy Colorado and 2024 GMC Canyon. The stop-sale order affects as many as 15,000 units, and is apparently related to a software issue. Now, GM Authority has learned that a fix for the truck’s software issues has been identified and new units are shipping to dealers, but it remains unclear if the stop-sale order has been lifted.
According to GM Authority sources, the stop-sale order has not affected production at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri, the facility where the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon are manufactured. Units that were in storage awaiting the new software fix will undergo a thorough cleaning and validation process prior to delivery to dealers.
Last week, GM Authority asked what was happening with 2024 Chevy Colorado shipments and 2024 GMC Canyon shipments, given production of both midsize pickups began last month, but dealers had yet to receive any new units. According to a GM Authority source, the newly produced trucks were held for “quality” much in the same way that new units of the 2023 Chevy Colorado and 2023 GMC Canyon were held following the launch of the all-new third-gen models.
GM implemented new software testing and quality processes late last year following a stop-sale order issued for the Chevy Blazer EV. The GM software and services team is currently led by Mike Abbott, who joined GM from Apple back in May of 2023.
Back in July, GM Authority reported that some 2023 Chevy Colorado and 2023 GMC Canyon owners experienced a loss of battery charge in their pickups following an over-the-air (OTA) vehicle software update. In response, General Motors released a new Service Update late last year, which included new programming for the ECM and Serial Data Gateway Module.

Don’t ship them with junk 2.7T engines!
Cracked blocks, collapsing roofs, poor software programing . . . I think I’ll wait before trading my 2018 ZR2 in on a headache.
12 vehicles is what I heard had cracked blocks. They have a fix for the roof dents and are fixing them. Software issue has been resolved according to reports I read today.
Ill take my chances, placed an order last week for a well equipped Z71 in radiant red
I currently have a 2016 fwd Z71 with V6 and crew cab that i bought new in Nov 2015. Its been a great small truck and in absolute perfect condition. When the new ‘Rado arrives my current truck will pass on to a family member.
I know there have been start up issues with the new truck , but GM has been all over these issues with action to correct , unlike other manufacturers who try to hide behind service bulletins, or like Ford with the recall kings.
I like what GM has done with stop sale and stop shipping to fix the issues so the customer experience is as it should be when they take delivery.
Holding on to my 2018 ZR2 as well.
