First Generation
The Chevrolet Silverado EV was introduced at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) on January 5th 2022. Set to begin production at the GM Factory Zero plant (previously known as Detroit-Hamtramck plant) in Spring 2023, the Silverado EV will be launched as a 2024 model year vehicle.
The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV rides on a narrow-body variant of the GM BT1 platform, which it shares with the GMC Sierra EV. The GMC Hummer EV Pickup and Hummer EV SUV ride on a wider variant of the same vehicle platform.
Unlike the Hummer EV models, the Silverado EV and Sierra EV are positioned as a more of a typical pickup truck rather than a high-performance machine with extreme off-road capabilities.
The Silverado EV will be offered exclusively in a Crew Cab Short Bed configuration. The RST First Edition will feature a fixed-glass roof, Multi-Flex Midgate, Automatic Adaptive Air Suspension, four-wheel steering, and available Multi-Flex Tailgate.
In regards to output, GM Ultium batteries and Ultium Drive motors provide motivation, with the RST First Edition producing 754 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque in the max power Wide Open Watts Mode. GM initially estimated that the Work Truck (WT) and RST would deliver up to 400 miles of range on a full charge from its range-topping powertrain, the 24-module battery pack. This figure was, however, upgraded in the spring of 2023 to 450 miles thanks to official EPA estimates. In addition, RST owners will have access to Ultium Charge 360, GM’s holistic charging approach that serves to reduce range anxiety.
The Chevrolet Silverado EV will first launch in 3WT and 4WT guise in Spring 2023 with starting prices of $74,800 and $79,800, which include the destination freight charge. Other Work Truck variants will follow with a base price of $39,900 before the destination freight charge (DFC). The fully-loaded RST is set to launch in Fall 2023, and will carry a starting MSRP of $105,000 not including DFC. Following the WT and RST models, Chevrolet plans to debut the full Silverado EV portfolio, which will include trim levels priced from $50,000 to $80,000 and higher.
