The GM Authority Take

The significant drop in Chevrolet Colombia sales in December 2023 further deepened the Bow Tie brand’s negative performance in the country, where it has accumulated 14 consecutive months in the red, results that have systematically reduced its market share. Even so, the result did represent an improvement compared to previous months by exceeding 2,500 sales and enabling Chevy to outsell Renault (which was the leader in prior months) for the 2023 calendar year, thereby earning the position as the market’s second-best-selling auto brand behind strong local growth experienced by Toyota.

A good chunk of the models offered by Chevrolet Colombia saw improvements in their monthly sales volumes during December, though that wasn’t enough to pull the brand overall from the red. The improvement in the volume of the Chevy Onix particularly stands out, as it reached 1,000 units following a streak of low monthly sales. The performance enabled it to strengthen its position as Chevrolet’s best-selling model in the Colombian market. Moreover, the Chevy Tracker and the N-Series line of commercial trucks also saw improvements, albeit with less pronounced decline rates than previous months.

Also worth noting is the very healthy increase in the Chevy N400 small van, which reached three-digit figures in December, as well as the incremental results of the all-new Chevy Montana, which recently launched in Colombia. The completely redesigned compact pickup is slowly gaining steam while attracting new customers for the brand in the local market.
