As GM Authority has been faithfully following, the start of regular production (SORP) of the 2024 Chevy Colorado and 2024 GMC Canyon has been pushed back several times already, and was recently rescheduled for December 18th. Now, the production start of the two midsize pickup trucks has been delayed once again.
GM Authority has learned from sources familiar with the matter that the SORP of the 2024 Colorado and 2024 Canyon has been pushed back to January 2nd, 2024. General Motors claims that this decision is due to a parts shortage for the midsizers.
Of course, an important note worth mentioning is that all GM North American assembly plants will be closed during the week of December 25th, 2023 for the holidays. In addition, production start dates tend to be very fluid and subject to change, as evidenced here.
For reference, production of the two midsize pickups was originally slated to commence on October 30th, 2023, but was pushed back due to complications related to the 2023 UAW strikes. The SORP was then delayed to December 11th, 2023, however, that date came and went without any 2024 model-year vehicles rolling off the assembly line.
As a reminder, the all-new generation of the Colorado and Canyon features a fresh powertrain lineup, consisting solely of a turbocharged four-banger and the second-gen GM eight-speed automatic transmission. The Colorado is offered with either the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L2R gasoline engine, rated at 237 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, or the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline TurboMax engine, rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the entire Canyon lineup features the latter engine option.
RWD is equipped as standard on the entry level trims of the two midsizers, while 4WD is found throughout the lineup.
In regard to structure, the third-generation 2024 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon both ride on an updated variant of the GMT 31XX platform, while production will continue to take place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

“Parts shortages” are merely a way to clear out inventory and keep supplies low – and prices high. They don’t really exist. Several manufacturers are doing this and most of us see right through it.
I’ve seen a few discounts on the 2023 canyon and Colorado at dealerships. None were ZR2 or AT4x but a few.
I hope this means they are working to build as many as possible. They could give Toyota a run for the top spot if they can produce enough.
GM lately has been given customers what they want and can’t fill orders. I guess that’s good to have but if Interest rates drop next year, demand might be high again.
You are mistaken, You don’t really understand how supply chain works.. They want to build as many as they can to fill orders. Supply chain issues hurt production witch hurts final sales and stock value. Your conspiracy theory is wrong. They actually loose profits on delaying production.

What a train wreck on getting this truck out to the public!!
Is it a train wreck though, or are they doing it on purpose to try to force people into more expensive half tons?
I wonder if they are working on a fix for the dented roof problem?
There is a fix for the collapsing roofs on the 24’s… IF you ever get one… 🙄
Promised to be in dealer showrooms in time for Christmas 2024!
Omg wasn’t aware of roof collapsing. I read electrical problems on 23’s. Still holding my breath in the 24 models….
6 months waiting for 2023 Colorado, just got word it was cancel, so now trying to sell me a 1500 boat anchor. I’m done getting quotes on the new and improved ford ranger. never own a ford but see a lot on the road, so time for change
I have been waiting for a 2023 ZR2 the Dealer was able to order a month before the strike. The Dealer has it in their system, I have a VIN and I am told by GM customer service and the Dealer it was being built as of a week ago. Sorry yours was canceled. I am crossing my fingers because 24’s are 3k+ up in price and no longer affordable for me. The 24 Toyota Tacoma could be an option.
The 24’s are not 3k more expensive. If a dealer is telling you that they are lying. At most maybe 500-1000 just because of few features will be standard such as the large display for the driver.
The AT4x is actually going to less because it won’t require onstar for 3 years.
I doubt you see many 2024 Rangers. Rangers are no where near available as Colorado’s are. If you look at sale data the Colorado was up from last year in the 3rd quarter. So they are gettng them to the dealers, they are just sold as soon as they get them.
LOL
That means you can still buy 23 on lot for good price
“good price” [citation needed]
I ordered a new Colorado first week in August, said 8-12 weeks then UAW strike. So a week ago called dealership to see how order was coming along CANCELED with no explanation but had a Silverado they’d make me a hell’ve deal on. So from a forty thousand truck to a sixty thousand truck, said no thanks. 2024 Colorado’s March-April if you’re lucky, so got on line and found the exact same truck I had ordered that was CANCELLED. Dealership was 153 miles away so called and within 15 minutes the deal was done and they are delivering it. Bought my 2021 Blazer the same way. If you’re looking let your fingers do the walking
Any new colors for 2024??
There is hope! As of today (12/20) both Chevrolet and GMC now have Build and Price up on their respective sites for the 2024 Colorado and Canyon! This is an official indicator that GM is ready to start production of the vehicles sometime in the near future. Although, using 2023 as an example, the trucks may never be built, but that is still to be seen. For all that have been (im)patiently waiting, you can now build your own and see colors, options and prices.
GM has a major problem with infotainment system used in the 2023 Canyon. In fact they have had problems with some of the infotainment systems going back to 2018. I speak from experience. My Canyon has been at the dealer for over 35 days. Parts on back order is code for parts don’t work as required and GM (it’s supplier) can’t fix it. They stopped 2023 Canyon production because of the problem and leave the customers that have the 2023 Canyon with the problem hanging.
It’s January 3, 2024. Do you known where your new Colorado or Canyon is?
I put my order in for a 2024 Canyon At4 the first week of November 2023 (Ont, canada). After following up with customer support I got an email today (Jan 24) that my truck has ‘been produced and pending some final tests and approvals. Will be ready for final shipment.’ It goes on to mention shipping and how it can sometimes be out of Gm control etc, but they’re are working as quickly as possible to get them out. Has anyone on here got their hands on a 2024 Canyon At4 yet?
Have you received your truck? Seems like no 24’s are in transit.
I ordered a 2024 AT4 in December and the order has still not been accepted by GM for production. I hear from my dealer that orders are on hold due to constraints specifically the premium package and a leather shortage. I hear “not from dealer”that all built Colorado and Canyons are on hold waiting for …
Sigh!
