The GM Authority Take

December 2023 represented the second consecutive month during which Chevrolet Brazil sales were stable, surpassing the 32,000 units mark while registering a slight decrease of 0.4 percent that barely altered the year-over-year performance. Additionally, the 32,414 deliveries last month represent Chevrolet’s best monthly performance in the Brazilian market for the entire 2023 calendar year, surpassing the previous record of 32,274 units in October. Looking at the figures in a more granular fashion, however, shows that December was the second month in a row in which the Bow Tie’s figures were in the red.

Once again, most of the models offered by Chevrolet in Brazil saw sales drop substantially during December, including the brand’s two best-selling models in the local market – the Chevy Onix and Chevy Tracker. In fact, for the first time since the COVID-driven production crisis in mid-2022, the popular subcompact car lost its position as Brazil’s best-selling vehicle in December, as sales were lower than the 17,999 deliveries of the Volkswagen Polo. Despite losing the sales crown in December, the Onix still maintained the best-selling spot during the complete 2023 calendar year. For its part, the Tracker suffered a notable drop of more than 1,500 units on an annual basis.

Meanwhile, the all-new Chevy Montana saw a substantial jump, while Chevy Equinox saw slight growth during the month. However, the model with the most notable performance was the Chevy Silverado, which made its sales chart debut by recording its first 295 deliveries in Brazil during December. The full-size pickup led the half ton pickup segment during its inaugural month of availability, reflecting the success of the truck’s local launch via the fully-loaded High Country trim – the only version on sale in Brazil.
