Chevrolet Chile Sales Down 44 Percent In October 2023

Chevrolet Chile sales decreased 44 percent to 1,595 units in October 2023. The figures place Chevrolet as the fourth country’s best-selling automobile brand during the month, behind Toyota, Kia and Hyundai.

Chilean auto sales figures are limited, since reporting only shows the best-selling models in each segment. As such, no sales data is available for vehicles that sell in lower volumes. Nevertheless, individual Chevy model sales performance (for models for which sales data is available) was as follows:

In addition to the models specified, Chevrolet also markets the following vehicles in Chile:

During the first 10 months of the 2023 calendar year, Chevrolet Chile sales decreased 46 percent to 17,665 units.

The GM Authority Take

Chevrolet Chile sales once experienced another drop in October, which represents the 13th consecutive month in the red for the Bow Tie brand in the South American country. In fact, last month’s result is one of the lowest records in recent history for Chevy in the Chilean market, causing the brand to lose market share  and to fall to fourth place among the best-selling brands locally.

All Chevrolet models offered in Chile suffered significant double- and triple-digit drops in sales during October. Among the most affected models are the Chevy Sail – which saw its prior-generation model discontinued several months ago – and the Chevy Colorado, which saw sales plummet drastically by 379 units on a year-over-year basis. The negative streak also touched the Chevy Groove best-seller and the Chevy Silverado – the only two models that are still in the green thus far in 2023.

For its part, the all-new Chevy Montana added 152 units to the bottom line, insufficient volume to counteract the brand’s overall decline but enough to make it the fourth best-selling Chevy in the local market.

We expect Chevrolet Chile sales performance to stabilize starting at the end of this year with the much-needed arrival of the all-new Chevy Sail. The entry-level model, which recently made its local debut, should go a long way toward helping the Bow Tie regain its sales leadership in Chile.
