Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)
Cadillac XT6 sales during the fourth quarter of 2023 placed the luxury marque’s three-row crossover SUV in 12th out of 16 entries in its segment when ranked by sales volume. The BMW X5 remained at the top, as it has for over a year now, with a 20 percent drop in sales to 20,697 units. The Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class followed in second place with a 13 percent slide to 14,547 units, while the Acura MDX took third with a four percent dip to 12,680 units. The Buick Enclave (see running Buick Enclave sales), the Cadillac XT6’s corporate cousin, placed fourth with a 42 percent jump to 10,929 units. Lexus now fields two models, taking fifth and sixth place. The Lexus GX, a body-on-frame SUV, posted a 39 percent bump to 10,418 units, while the Lexus TX, a unibody crossover, followed with 8,201 deliveries. The segment newcomer (see below) is already making waves during its first recorded quarter of sales. The rest of the field each posted less than 7.5K, including the Cadillac XT6 (see running Cadillac XT6 sales), which saw a 12 percent slip to 4,955 units. The XT6 placed behind crosstown rival Lincoln Aviator (see running Lincoln Aviator sales) by over 900 deliveries, which took 11th with an 11 percent bump in sales to 5,875 units.
As mentioned above, a new entry joins this space. The first-ever 2024 Lexus TX is a three-row crossover that directly rivals the XT6 and Buick Enclave. It replaces the now-discontinued Lexus RX L, a three-row variant of the popular Lexus RX. The TX is mechanically similar to the first-ever 2025 Toyota Grand Highlander, a direct rival to the Chevy Traverse.

The luxury E-utility segment grew 13 percent to 127,047 units in Q4 2023, meaning Cadillac XT6 sales significantly underperformed the segment average.
The GM Authority Take
Cadillac XT6 sales fell behind its crosstown rival, the Lincoln Aviator. Lincoln recently unveiled the refreshed 2025 Aviator to take on Cadillac’s largest crossover. While we now know that GM will offer a 2025 Cadillac XT6Â after all, it may or may not receive a much-needed refresh for the North American market, though a new XT6 will debut in China this year.
BMW continues to dominate with the X5, and now Lexus fields two models, the GX and the first-ever TX, enabling it to move ahead of GM in terms of overall sales during Q4. Cadillac ranked average in the Consumer Reports 2024 Reliability Report, though it still placed above the average dependability of U.S. automakers. However, the luxury marque ranked below average in the J.D. Power 2024 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study.
Impacting sales as well is availability. Even though Cadillac’s new-vehicle inventory increased in October, supply was at just 48 days supply and well below the 60 days supply considered optimal by many car industry analysts and automakers alike. Consequently, Cadillac’s inventory remained below the industry average in November of 71 days, with supply at 61 days. Cadillac inventory decreased in December back to 52 days supply.
Furthermore, Cadillac XT5, XT6, and Lyriq production were down during the first week of the new year due to maintenance, which will likely impact Cadillac XT6 sales going forward. Yet, Cadillac dealer inventory rose in January, though levels stood at 60 days of supply while the average was 80.
About Cadillac XT6
The 2024 Cadillac XT6 arrives as the fourth model year of the first generation of the luxury marque’s largest crossover. It received a few changes and updates, the most significant being a trio of accent packages GM debuted: the new Red Accent Package, Blue Accent Package, and Bronze Accent Package.
This past December, the Cadillac XT6 fared poorly in the updated moderate overlap front crash test of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). However, the 2024 Cadillac XT6 received a “Recommended” rating for the first time from Consumer Reports.
While there are no announced plans for an XT6 refresh that the model deserves, Cadillac continues to focus heavily on electric vehicles.
The Cadillac Lyriq is the luxury marque’s first-ever EV and its all-electric replacement for the aging Cadillac XT5.
The first-ever all-electric Cadillac Optiq was revealed this past November and caught in the wild in December. It is the Cadillac’s entry-level EV offering to eventually replace the Cadillac XT4, which itself received a refresh for the 2024 model year. In April, the Optiq will launch in China.
These models precede the recently announced first-ever 2026 Cadillac Vistiq, an all-electric three-row crossover spotted on the road in February that is set to round out the EV portfolio, slotting in the same space occupied by the XT6.
The first-ever Cadillac Escalade IQ full-sizer will slot above the Vistiq.
Additionally, a Cadillac V-Series EV is set to debut this year, likely as the Cadillac Lyriq-V. Most recently, the luxury marque teased the Opulent Velocity concept vehicle as it celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Cadillac V-Series sub-brand.

It’s worth noting that all of Cadillac’s gasoline-powered crossovers struggle in their respective segments regarding sales volume. Despite GM’s mainstream subcompact crossovers seeing great success, crossover models from Chevy, GMC, and Buick all remain competitive. Whether Cadillac can compete better with electric models remains to be seen.

I have been saying the same thing since they released the XT6 in 2020. ITS OUTDATED!!! The XT6 has the same interior from 2016 when they released the all New XT5 as a 2017 Model. Surely Cadillac is in panic mode now that their ICE product lines are aged and sales are tanking and they have found out that EV Demand is not what they thought it was going to be. Please give consumers what they want, not what the Government is incentivizing!
PLEASE! Someone do something about the masterminds that are destroying GM and Cadillac…..
I have no idea what GM is doing! The XT6 should atleast get the same refresh as the XT4 perhsps even more! A revised nose, maybe a tweaked rear and a whole new console in the interior. It should also get the new 2.5 liter turbo engine with a PHEV option!

I just saw on this site that a new or a refreshed XT6 will debut this year in China. I bet we get this and the new XT5 in North America especially since demand for EV’s is now lukewarm. I bet we get a PHEV version too!
We have a 2020 XT6 (bought in 2019) and love it. Size, ride, power, mpg, styling all perfect for us, the features we wanted but not a lot of unnecessary features we wouldnt use. Had every intention of getting another one this year but they haven’t been updated AT ALL. The only change in 5 years are color options and Super Cruise, and the Super Cruise they added is the old outdated version. So they took an outdated vehicle and added outdated technology for the same price as the new version of Super Cruise on other vehicles. Visited the dealer and they pushed us toward a Lyric. They are nice, but we live in an older part of the city and park on the street. No where to plug in an EV.
Speaking of Cadillac dealers, why is EVERY Cadillac on the lots white, silver, gray or black? I know that’s the safe option for all dealerships, but the reds, blues and green color options look great in pictures, I’d just like to see them in person first. We have a Garnet XT6, (deep burgundy/purple color) and I’ve never gotten so many compliments on a paint color. Ease up on the black, gray, silver, white excess.
The new Enclave has good and bad points for us, styling looks bland but it has several features Cadillac doesn’t offer. How can Buick have massage seats and Cadillac doesn’t? Seriously? Heated and cooled rear seats, only heat in a Caddy.
We may wait to see if Cadillac will update the XT6 for 2025 or if it just continues on as is. But we’re going to the auto show in early April to check out some competitors. Lincoln Aviator and Buick Enclave both look impressive. Like the Aviator more on paper, and if they still offered the hybrid, that would be our choice, but its expensive. Enclave, Acadia and Explorer all look good as well but we’ll see.
I know Caddy was moving toward all EV’s and gas models got left behind. But EV’s just aren’t an option for us with street parking. See that a lot with townhouse, condo, Apts too. There’s a lot of urban population with limited access to home charging for the near future at least. I’d love to see more plug in hybrid options, but I think that’s a pipe dream.
An XT6 update that outpaces the competition, or at least catches up would be great. Since 2019 when it was released, it’s been increasingly left behind. Sad to see when the rest of the line up has been redone or at least updated.
Gee,… there are currently at total of THREE new XT6 Cadillac’s to choose from near me.
Yet, go across the street to the Lexus store and they have a WHOLE BUNCH of new vehicles on the lot to look at.
Maybe selection might increase sales?…
Oh well, I guess I’ll have to wait for the next car show to look at a new Caddy and compare and… oh wait! I think I read in another article that Cadillac will not be present at car shows. Sad. Guess I’ll just keep our old car.
I have been shopping for this class vehicle. My wife has a 2019 XT5 which we love. Looking at 3-4 year old XT6, but not much flare to me. Actually, am finding the Enclaves more appealing for style, interior color choices, and substance/value. Yet, just my opinion.
