Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)
Cadillac XT6 sales during the fourth quarter of 2022 kept the luxury marque’s three-row crossover in ninth place in its segment from the last quarter, when ranked by sales volume. The BMW X5 remained in first place, as it has for over a year now, with a 36 percent increase in sales to 25,769 units. The Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class kept second place, like it has all year long, with a four percent slide to 16,800 units. The Acura MDX held third with an eight percent bump to 13,211 units. The Volvo XC90 moved up to fourth place with a three percent increase to 8,820 units. The Buick Enclave (see running Buick Enclave sales), the Cadillac XT6’s corporate cousin, moved up to fifth place, though sales slipped 11 percent to 7,719 units. The Lexus GX dropped to sixth with a 14 percent slide to 7,479 units, while the Infiniti QX60 moved up to seventh with a 329 percent leap to 6,243 units. The QX60 recently went through generational changeover, which explains its sales bump this quarter, though not as dramatic as that seen during last quarter. The Audi Q7 moved up as well, to eighth place, with a 98 percent increase to 5,973 units. The Cadillac XT6 remained in ninth place with a 93 percent jump to 5,661 units. The Lincoln Aviator finished one spot behind the XT6, followed by four other models.

For the sake of presenting a more complete picture of the competitive landscape, we’re providing sales figures for the Lexus RX below. Though the RX slots into the luxury utility D-segment, competing with the Cadillac XT5, the last generation was offered as a two-row model as well as a three-row model called RX L, which competes with three-row luxury models mentioned above.
Since Lexus does not break out sales of the two-row RX from the three-row RXL, not all RX sales can be applied to the premium three-row CUV segment. A more appropriate comparison would be to bundle Cadillac XT5 and XT6 sales. We’ve also included the Lincoln Nautilus and Aviator, which are direct rivals to Cadillac’s two models, respectively, and added the GX to join the RX in this list. It’s worth noting that the next-generation 2023 Lexus RX will only be available as a two-row model that rivals the XT5. The three-row variant and XT6 competitor, meanwhile, is expected to be served by a different model/nameplate.
Combining sales of the Cadillac XT5 and XT6 results in moving 14,107 units, while cumulative sales of the Lexus RX and GX results in 23,221 deliveries. As we’ve recently noted, Cadillac continues to lag behind Lexus in terms of sales in this segment for several reasons.

The luxury E-utility segment grew 11 percent to 115,788 units in Q4 2022, meaning XT6 sales significantly outperformed the segment average.
The GM Authority Take
Cadillac XT6 sales performance was solid during Q4 2022, with the luxury marque’s three-row crossover netting nearly twice as many deliveries on a year-over-year basis, as well as 600 units more than the prior quarter. Additionally, combining sales of the Cadillac XT6 and the Buick Enclave kept GM in third place, while the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class continued to command the top two spots, respectively.
The uptick in XT6 sales during the last quarter of 2022 was the result of substantially improved availability of the vehicle at the dealer level. Inventory was very low during the year-ago quarter, when component supply issues prevented GM from building the model in sufficient quantities to meet demand.
Cadillac has a lot going for it, with the brand ranking as the third-most considered luxury brand for the second consecutive quarter, edged out by Lexus and BMW in second and first, respectively. Meanwhile, the Cadillac XT6 ranked as the best upper midsize premium utility in the J.D. Power 2022 Initial Quality Study (IQS) last summer.
The competition isn’t standing still, as BMW recently announced a mid-cycle refresh for the 2024 BMW X5 and X6 crossovers, with changes inside and out. For its part, Cadillac is expected to refresh the XT6 for the 2024 model year, but production capacity will be the limiting factor.
On the EV front, we recently spied an electric Cadillac crossover undergoing testing that, as we’ve noted before, will slot in above the Cadillac Lyriq with regard to the luxury marque’s EV crossover lineup, with overall proportions similar to those of the current internal combustion engined Cadillac XT6.

About Cadillac XT6
The 2020 Cadillac XT6 was the first model year for the all-new, three-row luxury midsize crossover utility vehicle (CUV) from the automaker. Two years later, the 2022 Cadillac XT6 offered Super Cruise for the first time. The 2022 XT6 also features more standard advanced safety features along with several other changes.
The 2023 Cadillac XT6 ushers in only a few small updates and changes over the preceding 2022 model year, including a limited expansion of Super Cruise driving coverage. Compatibility now includes an extra 20,000 miles of compatible roads, up from the previous 200,000-plus miles, but not the doubling to more than 400,000 miles of roads in the United States and Canada that other GM models have received. The vaunted GM Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assistance system is offered as an option on Luxury Premium and Sport trim levels, but not on the base Luxury trim.
As a reminder, the Cadillac XT6 rides on the GM C1 platform and is offered with two engine options, starting with the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine, rated at 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This engine is standard and only available on the Luxury trim level. Meanwhile, the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LGX gasoline engine, rated at 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque, is standard on the higher end Premium Luxury and Sport trims. Output is routed through the GM nine-speed automatic transmission with front-wheel drive standard, and all-wheel drive is available as an extra-cost option on Luxury and Premium Luxury, while being standard on Sport.
The 2024 Cadillac XT6 will represent the fourth model year of the first generation of Cadillac’s largest crossover, and we expect it to receive a mid-cycle refresh, with revisions to exterior styling as well as to the interior. Production of the 2024 Cadillac XT6 is scheduled to start in June.

Popularity of the XT6 should increase with refresh.
I love my 2013 Chevy Traverse. One of the best vehicles I’ve ever owned. I may upgrade to the XT6, with the 3.6 (which is a fantastic engine), and AWD, which my Traverse doesn’t have.
The car does not need a refresh, it needs the boot. They need to make a smaller Escalade in line with the Range Rover. This is a crowded space, nobody wants a me too XT6. The XT6 is a nice vehicle, I owned one, but at 5% share why bother in this meat grinder segment unless you can dominate?
Spin it how you will, those are terrible numbers!
No they aren’t since they were even building very quickly. The only reason those above the XT6 did much better is because those are the only cars they sell. GM was more concerned with producing Trucks and Suv’s which bring in a lot of profit. Now that things are slowing down and they can build more vehicles sales may begin to go up more.
Time to figure out different excuses for gm. Everybody was dealing with the same chip and supply issues. BMW X6 increased it’s share from 18% to 22% in the same period. Their sales went up by 35% while most everybody else went down. BMW has a huge line, it’s not the only vehicle they sell.
Cadillac does and did not make this care a priority even before 2020.
The real story here is that the executives at Cadillac think they belong in the same conversation as Mercedes and BMW. But they are getting beat by Acura and Lexus by a 2 to 1 margin. That has to be a hard thing to reconcile for them.
so realistically the xt6 is the 2nd best selling
The XT6 has a beautiful exterior, the refresh with a revised nose and new XT4 like cockpit, sale will only increase. I wonder when Caddy will confirm the refresh
Needs more Escalade-look for front, side and rear along with the instrument panel. How about using the Escalade inspired taillights? Escalade sells and Xt6 would boost if it looked more Escalade. It won’t take sales away from Escalade but add to Cadillac’s total sales. Hopefully this is enough to overtake Aviator which is so outdated and old.
