Five years after the global debut of Cadillac’s current three-row crossover during the 2019 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, General Motors is preparing a new version of the Cadillac XT6 that’s set to debut this year in China.
GM Authority exclusively learned that the automaker will introduce an updated Cadillac XT6 this year in China, the second country in the world where Cadillac currently manufactures the three-row luxury crossover. A production schedule for SAIC-GM’s Cadillac division for the 2024 calendar year references a “new XT6” as one of the luxury marque’s four launches planned for this year in the Asian country.
This is the first time that we have seen official information about an updated Cadillac XT6, which saw its generation revealed in early 2019 as a 2020 model vehicle before going on sale in both the United States and China. Since then, the XT6 has not received any major updates.
Though the production schedule doesn’t state whether the Cadillac XT6 set to debut this year in China will be a mid-cycle refresh or an all-new second-generation model, and SAIC-GM joint venture uses the term “new” to refer to both the all-new Cadillac Optiq and the refreshed Cadillac XT4 and CT5. However, GM Authority has reason to believe that the model in question will be more along the lines of a refresh.
In any case, the new Cadillac XT6 will receive notable changes in both exterior and interior design to bring the crossover up to date with the brand’s current portfolio. Although we have not seen any prototypes on the road so far, the new XT6 is likely to share many styling elements with the second-generation Cadillac XT5 whose images recently leaked in China, as both will continue to be manufactured together at the Cadillac Jinqiao plant.
The new redesigned Cadillac XT6 is expected to debut during the second half of this year in China as a 2025 model-year vehicle, continuing the renewal of Cadillac’s internal combustion vehicle range in the Chinese market. It’s currently unclear if the new version of the Cadillac XT6 will come to North America, but GM Authority did recently report that the XT6 will be offered for the 2025 model year and not be discontinued.

I’m wondering if they would import a hybrid version of both the XT5/6. They wouldn’t need to bring that many over tbh
Frankly, I would instead build a US-centric hybrid solution for all their midrange suvs. With the geopolitical situation, it’s likely that the United States Government will pile tariffs on China to re-shore industry back into the United States.
Vehicles are a high-profile trade war target.
It will just be a rebadged traverse. Probably won’t even get the 2.5, likely keep the 2.0 for the Chinese market. Hopefully they do better than they did with the Buick front end
Rebadged Traverse -> X
Rebadged Acadia -> O
There is a difference in the platform.
The new Acadia is already a rebadged traverse. If we’re talking “platform”, all GM crossovers regardless of size ride the same platform, which FYI, is also shared with the Malibu. All of these can be built on the same assembly line with no retooling, and have many interchangeable parts. The current XT6/Buick enclave/Travserse are have the same wheelbase and drivelines. The new generation will also see the Acadia share that. Basically they are all a rebadged traverse.
I’d love to see caddy add something exceptional to the new XT6. The 3.6 turbo with a full
Time AWD and torque boosted transmission to get best in class performance would be nice, as well as magnetic ride control. But they will likely give it the 2.0 for china as performance isn’t a concern over there.
You’re wrong. XT6 DOES NOT have the same WB as current Enclave and Traverse. Also, what is your definition of driveline? Props and half shafts are different lengths in XT6 vs models you mentioned. They don’t even share the same 3.6L engine LOL.
Ok Mr wise guy, double checked and the XT6 and current Acadia share wheelbases. It’s all the same platform, and this wheelbase is being discontinued anyways, so the new XT6 will be a rebadged traverse. That’s what to exspect.
I love the photos and description of the 2024 Redesigned GMC Acadia. It is larger and has some new great features… big screen to side of dashboard for all the technology. I’m impressed even if it is a gussied up Traverse….looks lots better! I have loved my 2019 GMC Acadia…in a while might consider the new one or look at the Caddy version.
Do you know the difference between a rebadge and platform sharing? I don’t think you do.
Platform sharing; ATS->Camaro, alpha platform. Different engines, different body’s, windows, interiors, and space frame. They ride the same “platform” meaning layout and architecture.
GM’s crossovers share not only their platform, but engines, frames, most of the body panels, rear seats, and windows. Pretty much all that’s changed between models is fenders. Grill and dash. Some there’s a trim difference, others maybe different fenders, but you can pull body panels and trim from one and glue it to the other. Yes, that’s a bigger difference than GM of 2006, but a rebadge nonetheless.
Do you know the difference between a rebadge and platform sharing? I don’t think you do.
I love my XT6 and would love an upgraded model….
GM is milking the sheeit out of that platform; Traverse, Acadia, Enclave XT6, birds of the same feather.
The current one is the most generic Cadillac ever and only sells based on the brand name. I remember when it was introed, all the comments about blandness.
Idiotic that we’re getting a new Traverse/Enclave but not a new XT6? With all the problems that the Ultium platform is having, I wouldn’t expect the XT6 EV-replacement, the Vistiq, to be ready on schedule. They NEED the XT6 ICE replacement for at least 5 more years.
I love my 2024 XT6 Prem Lux, Platinum and hope I can get another one when the lease is up. If there is another generation great. If not, I’ll take another just like the one I have and be very happy.
My last 10 vehicles have been Cadillac’s but that era is coming to an end. No new metal on their gas engined SUV’s except for releases in CHINA!! I feel abandoned. So what; I’m I supposed to be satisfied with the same body and interior with no new tech.? I buy American and have been a GM loyalist. That ends this year!
Due to the lukewarm reception to EV’s at this time you can bet the refreshed or new XT6 will make its way to North America with the all new XT5. I expect more of a heavy refresh to the front, a tweeked rear and a all new console similar to the XT4 but perhaps more extensive. I bet the NA verson gets the new 2.5 liter turbo and a PHEV option.
@Steven WHO CARES if they share a platform if you like the stying of one of four vehicles mentioned then just buy it! And by the way the Lexus RX is a rebadged TOYOTA RAV4…your point is? I say get a life bro you have way to much time on your hands!
People are so hung up on platform/powertrain sharing, they all do it folks! Toyota/Lexus; Honda/Acura; Volkswagen/Audi etc.
3.0 twin turbo please. That would set it apart.
We have enjoyed our 2020 XT6. Never any problems. Nice car for the $. However, we are getting close to a new one. Would probably purchase a 25 refresh XT6, if offered. As of now, we’re waiting for any info on if this will happen or not. We will not buy another dated XT6 that we already have. Thinking seriously about moving over to Lexus. We have been driving Cadillacs for a long time and would like to stay. Cadillac, if you’re listening, any information on 25 XT6 would be greatly appreciated.
With the lukewarm reception to EV’s, i could almost guarantee we will see the refreshed XT6 in North America in addition to the the new XT5 that will probably be imported from China!
Is there going to be a cosmetic or feature change between the 2024 and the 2025 models here in the USA. Have a 2020 and wondering if the 2025 is going to be different than the 2020-2024 models
