The 2024 Cadillac Lyriq has been given an overall test evaluation of Good by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), securing top marks in several crash worthiness evaluations. Nevertheless, the Lyriq failed to secure the IIHS Top Safety Pick award, and it returned low ratings in a few important categories. Notably, GM failed to earn a single IIHS Top Safety Pick Award for 2024.
According to the IIHS, the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq was given a top “Good” rating in all three crashworthiness categories, including the small overlap front test, the updated moderate overlap front test, and the updated side test. Ratings in the various crash worthiness sub-ratings were Good across the board, with the exception of the driver hip / thigh evaluation for the driver’s side impact test, in which it received a rating of Acceptable, and the passenger restraints in the passenger’s side impact test, which also received an Acceptable rating. Additionally, the rear-seated passenger restraints also received an Acceptable rating in the updated moderate overlap front test, while the driver’s torso evaluation was Acceptable in the updated side impact test.

Meanwhile, the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq received an overall Poor rating with regard to evaluation of its LED projector headlights. Although the headlights are equipped with high-beam assist technology, the IIHS noted excessive glare from the low beams.
An additional 19 vehicles secured an IIHS Top Safety Pick award in 2024. However, the IIHS notes that the Cadillac Lyriq was disqualified due to a Poor headlight rating.
American car brands were particularly underrepresented in the list of IIHS Top Safety Pick award winners, with the Ford Explorer, Tesla Model Y, and a pair of Jeeps making the cut. The IIHS recently introduced more stringent safety requirements for 2023 and 2024. Prior to the introduction of these requirements, several GM vehicles secured a Top Safety Pick award for 2022.
As a reminder, the Cadillac Lyriq rides on the GM BEV3 platform and is produced at the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee.
