All-New Cadillac Optiq To Launch Next Month In China

Following the official announcement of the all-new Cadillac Optiq local name in China, SAIC-GM is preparing to launch Cadillac‘s new electric crossover next month in the Asian country.

The Chinese-market Cadillac Optiq.

General Motors’ main joint venture in China will launch the all-new Cadillac Optiq over the next month in that country’s local market, according to a 2024 calendar year launch schedule from SAIC-GM’s Cadillac division, to which GM Authority had access to. In fact, the Optiq will be the first of four all-new vehicles that GM’s luxury brand will introduce to the Chinese market this year.

As such, China will become the first region in the world where the all-new Cadillac Optiq will be officially launched after Cadillac’s zero-emissions crossover was simultaneously unveiled in the United States and in the Asian country on November 17th, 2023. The local name of the Cadillac Optiq in the Chinese market is “傲歌” or Aoge, whose meaning in Mandarin is linked to music.

Although SAIC-GM’s launch schedule does not specify the exact date on which the all-new Cadillac Optiq will be launched, some sources familiar with the manufacturer’s plans have reported that it will occur at the end of next month on the eve of the 2024 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition (Auto China) – which will open its doors in the Chinese capital from April 25th to May 4th.

Based on a variant of the GM BEV3 platform and the Ultium architecture, the Cadillac Optiq is Cadillac’s second global all-electric crossover and is positioned as a compact-to-midsize utility vehicle below the larger Cadillac Lyriq. In this sense, the Optiq will arrive with the important mission of competing in the segment with the highest sales volume of the electric vehicle market and the automotive industry in general.

The all-new Cadillac Optiq will be officially launched next month during the 2024 Auto China in the city of Beijing and is expected to be available for sale at the same time in the brand’s official dealer network in China. Like the Lyriq and the rest of the brand’s vehicles sold in the country, the new Optiq will be manufactured locally at a SAIC-GM plant – possibly at the Cadillac Jinqiao plant in Shanghai.

  1. CT5 Facelift was already released in China a few months ago, but we can’t get it in the U.S. yet. Optiq will also be released in China first, not in the U.S. It’s such a shame that Cadillac, America’s proudest and greatest brand, is increasingly turning its back on the U.S. market and focusing only on China.

    1. Get used to it. China is the largest auto market in the world at the moment (28M vs 17 for US) and Caddy’s largest buyer (194K vs 134K) This has been true for several years now, so not a blip. Caddy is focusing on their biggest customer. Makes sense. US is becoming the next Great Britain, a waning power. Sad, but we have become a spoiled entitled bunch who don’t work that hard. I was pleased to see Colleges are starting to reinstate ACT/SAT requirement. Some hope for the future.

  2. The Optiq is an Equinox EV with Cadillac sheet metal and interior. That’s not bad as it looks really good and the spy shots seem to show a much more upscale interior. Cadillac dealers here in the US could use a new model. I can’t think of any reason why it shouldn’t be sold here. I think if the base Optiq is priced within $10K base Lyriq’s $58K price I think it might sell well.

BTY, Buick has been selling two Ultium cars, Electra E4 and Electra E5 in China for about a year now. These are also cousins to the Equinox EV and Blazer EV. Hope these make it over here as well.

    1. Don’t expect Buick models in the US until the next gen Ultium tech is released. The vehicles that we know of now should be the last on the current tech. Hopefully US production of the the Optiq is right around the corner since equinox production just started.

  3. Personally, I think US companies should be banned from building facilities & manufacturing any advanced technologies in China. IT’S LITERALLY FATTING Frogs 🐸 for snakes 🐍 😒. The same tech will be used make weapons of war to be used against thr USA. These greedy short sighted companies are selling aide & confort to the enemy 😳

  4. I feel the same way as millions of Americans also do. Let’s face it, we’re losing and they are winning. We need to all get ready for more to come. America is not the same in such a short time, maybe 20 years. My father owned a 58 Caddy Eldorado and he was so proud of this. It was an American thing and now its not. It’s diffenitly painful to see America go by the way side. I feel like China is controlling our destiny. It’s all in Gods hands.

  5. Seems like there’s always so much negativity in media comments. Cadillac is a great brand. It used to be, in the 50s and 60s (and before) but the 70s through the 90s they were not producing great automobiles. Now they are. Anyone who has driven any of the V variants on a track can attest to this. And the Lyriq was received with great acclaim from the reviewers. Then the market for EVs fell off in the US. I think that GM and others are simply responding to market pressures. GM is not delivering cutting edge technology to China. They’re just building EVs that remain in demand in China. It won’t always be that way. China’s economy is cooling rapidly, so GM is smart to take advantage of the current situation. As Americans begin to buy more EVs again, they will be well positioned to deliver the cars that Americans want to buy. In the meantime, they are building more PHEVs which will help reduce greenhouse gas while simultaneously evolving EV technology and ramping up development and delivery of American made vehicles for us.

  6. I don’t think Cadillac is turning in back on the American market. I think the American market turned it’s back on Cadillac. If Americans don’t like Cadillacs and the Chinese love Cadillacs, what would you do?it’s a no brainer. What I don’t get is why Americans are willing to pay thousands more for BMW’s, Mercedes, Audis. Pay thousands more for maintenance on those vehicles compared to Cadillacs. I really don’t get it. I’ve owned several Cadillacs I think they’re great cars.
