The GM Authority Take
While Chevy Equinox sales were up during the quarter, the performance lagged that of the segment, as has been the case for the past year. Combining sales of the Equinox and GMC Terrain keeps The General somewhat competitive, though the top three entries in this space – Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Nissan Rogue – still beat it out, combining for nearly half of all deliveries. And cumulative sales of the Hyundai Motor Group conglomerate – those of the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage – beat the GM as well.
Furthermore, regarding competitors, a refreshed 2025 Hyundai Tucson was recently unveiled, featuring revised styling inside and out, a variety of new infotainment and tech items, and more power for the hybrid powertrain options.
The arrival of the next-generation 2025 Chevy Equinox later this year will hopefully help boost sales of GM’s best-selling crossover, and the next-generation 2025 GMC Terrain has been teased in a new image, ready to do its part at some point.
About Chevrolet Equinox
The 2024 Chevy Equinox arrives with only a handful of changes and updates before the debut of an all-new fourth generation.
As in prior model years, front-wheel drive is standard across all 2024 Chevy Equinox trim levels, with all-wheel drive offered as an optional upgrade. Motivation for the 2024 Equinox comes from the new-for-2023 turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine, which produces 175 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque.
Here is everything that’s new and different for the 2024 Chevy Equinox.
This past August, the Chevy Equinox was praised for ease of child seat installation and noted for having top-quality seats.
In January, GM unveiled the all-new 2025 Chevy Equinox, debuting the fourth generation of its best-selling crossover. Highlights include larger screens in the cabin and additional safety features. Joining the sporty-looking RS trim level is the new-for-2025 Activ trim, offering a more rugged look and setup for outdoorsy activities. The 2025 Chevy Equinox is wider and taller than the 2024 model, with a slightly more spacious interior. However, the all-new model offers the same turbocharged 1.5L gasoline engine as before, placing its powertrain mid-pack compared to direct rivals.
Production of the 2025 Equinox has been pushed back two months to  June 17th, though dealers can now order the new model.
Meanwhile, the first-ever 2024 Chevy Equinox EV debuted in September, featuring as standard a single Ultium Drive electric motor powering the front wheels, rated at 210 horsepower and 242 pound-feet of torque. An optional ‘eAWD’ system will also be offered, rated at 290 horsepower and 346 pound-feet of torque.
Driving range confirmed by GM for the 2024 Chevy Equinox EV AWD reveals that it will offer an EPA-estimated 285 miles of range per charge, while the Equinox EV FWD will offer 319 miles of range. GM also expects the Equinox EV FWD to be the most-affordable all-electric vehicle to offer 319 miles of range.
Pricing for the 2024 Equinox EV starts at $35K for the FWD 1LT trim and ranges up to $52K for the AWD 2RS Launch Edition. GM says the new all-electric Equinox will be eligible for a Clean Vehicle Federal Tax Credit of up to $7,500, which would knock the final price for the Equinox EV 1LT FWD down to less than $27K. For comparison, the ICE Chevy Equinox’s price ranges from $28K to $35K.
Both the all-new Equinox EV as well as the next-gen, 2025 Equinox internal combustion model will be sold side-by-side for the foreseeable future, especially since the ICE version just got a makeover.
Production of the 2024 Equinox EV is underway.

Not bad considering the following. The current Nox is one of the oldest in that segment. It offers just one powertrain. The brand new one will be out soon.
It’s still a good distance behind the cra**y Rav4, but once the new one is out and you can get it in substantially different trims along with the pure EV version, I truly think it will be giving the Rav4 a real run for the sales title.
Keep living in fantasy land. The RAV4 will stay the sales king.
The reason the turd Rav4 is “sales king” is because they push the heck out of it. They offer it in many trims and with numerous powertrain configurations. It’s not at the top because it’s the best. It’s at the top because there’s a lot of sheep and those sheep can get it in many ways.
Once the new Equinox is out and selling along side the EV Equinox and (hopefully) the PHEV version, Chevy will be able to peel some of those sheep away from Toyota while gaining new customers from other brands as well. So yes, it’s possible.
The reason the Rav is sales king is because its a reliable, easy to live with, no nonsense vehicle. I am not gonna say its a nicer vehicle than the Equinox (I don’t think it is. I see the Nox as homely and smooth while my 2016 Rav is a raspy sounding taxicab), but I currently trust my Rav more than my XT5 in not leaving my wife stranded and will always start on the dime. She is a solid and reliable workhorse and expect to get 200k miles at the very least out of her. The XT5 at only 10k miles still needs to prove itself to me at the level the Rav already has. That being said though, life is short and I am willing to go for something slightly less reliable for something more appealing. If my XT5 proves to be reliable I will give the Nox or Terrain a look when it comes time to replace the Rav.
Never happen, but it might give the Rogue and CR-V a run.
Our Rav4 has a 2.5 liter engine vs a 1.5 liter engine. Yes, it has some flaws, but my wife love it. It is an easy car to live with and only needs routine maintenance.
The GM cars I previously drove were full of issues, too many to list!
An all-new Equinox should generate more interest for the Equinox.
