The GM Authority Take

Again, Chevrolet Argentina sales suffered a drastic double-digit contraction during March, which marked a new negative record for the brand in the South American country. In addition to representing the fifth consecutive monthly drop, last month’s record becomes the worst figure in Chevrolet’s recent history in the Argentine market – hit by the severe macroeconomic difficulties and limitations to doing business that manufacturers face in the country.

Chevrolet Argentina Sales Down 60 Percent In March 2024

All Chevrolet Argentina models significantly decreased their registrations, both in the month and the accumulated totals in the year’s first quarter. The negative overall performance was led by substantial declines experienced by the domestically produced Chevy Cruze and Chevy Tracker, which lost 709 and 532 units year-over-year – respectively, subtracting a significant volume of 1,241 deliveries, equivalent to more than 80 percent of the brand’s total loss.

The only exception in the list of models with red figures was the all-new Chevy Montana, which had not yet started commercialization in Argentina in March 2023. Even so, Chevrolet’s compact pickup has maintained a meager volume in the local market since its launch. GM Argentina has not been able to increase the inventory of available units due to a set of obstacles that still limit its import from Brazil.
