2025 Chevy Equinox Production Start Date Pushed Back

The 2025 Chevy Equinox kickstarts the crossover’s fourth generation, highlighted by an overhauled exterior, larger screens inside, a slew of safety features, and the addition of the rugged Activ trim. However, GM Authority has learned that the start of regular production (SORP) of the 2025 Equinox is now slated to begin a few months later than initially expected.

Production of the fourth-gen Equinox, which will take place at the GM San Luis Potosí plant, is now scheduled for June 17th, 2024. That’s almost a month later than original projections, which indicated that the 2025 Equinox would begin rolling off the line on May 20th, 2024.

Outside, the Equinox sports an all-new exterior with styling inspired by Chevy trucks. This includes a more aggressive front fascia featuring The Bow Tie brand’s signature two-tier “highbrow” headlight treatment similar to the Chevy Traverse and Chevy Blazer, with thin upper lighting signatures over all-new headlights. The rear fascia now sports horizontal taillights along with dual exhaust outlets.

Meanwhile, the 2025 Chevy Equinox Activ gets a unique front fascia, all-terrain tires, and an available white roof with a two-tone body finish, as well as blacked-out badging and other elements that set it apart from the rest of the Equinox lineup.

Inside, the 2025 Chevy Equinox boasts an 11-inch diagonal driver information center and a new 11.3-inch diagonal infotainment screen, which is 30 percent larger than the biggest infotainment screen offered by the outgoing third-gen model. Chevy Safety Assist is standard, which bundles helpful features such as Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, and Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, just to name a few.

As a reminder, the 2025 Chevy Equinox harnesses the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine, connected to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) for front-wheel-drive models, while all-wheel-drive models get the GM eight-speed automatic. The boosted four-cylinder is rated at 175 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque in FWD variants or 203 pound-feet of torque in AWD units. Just like its predecessor, it’s underpinned by GM’s D2 platform.

  1. So that explains why ’24 Equinox supplies are declining (and prices rising). I thought they were still being produced. This needs double-checking.
So the start date for the ’25s is actually bad when my first reaction was that it was a good thing.

    1. 2024 Equinox is still being produced. Transport from the production plant has been a nightmare for months so although for example we have over 50 available, most are sitting in Mexico or on a ship or at a port waiting for a transporter and we only have 2 on the ground.

    1. General Motors and Boeing should consider a merger. Similar cultures, 100% profit driven, poor product development, terrible customer service etc…

  3. Equinox has $2500 discount and Envision $3500 in my neighborhood. Getting rid of the old for the new. You can almost get an Equinox for the price of a Trax.

    1. Terrain instead of Envision? My neighbors just bought a leftover Envision Avenir (wait til I tell the geezer about China, ahem) and he’s as cheap as…so there MUST be big incentives.

  4. Big screen, little engine. Sorry, NOT interested.

  5. These ongoing production delays makes me want to scream. I’ve had a career in process engineering and leadership and supply chain management and it’s shocking that GM keeps missing production and launch targets. I really am rethinking what I want t to buy now and may be forced to buy from a foreign automaker. This is sad.

    1. toyota is having the same issues with the new Tacoma…..suppliers are having issues with the delivery of parts..economy is not a good as people are told to believe, some reason people don’t seem to want to work.

      1. The suppliers could be very busy with other orders’ hence resulting in a small delay. Could very well be a quality control issue that has occurred and GM is doing the right thing instead of ignoring it. Delays happen in complex assembly operation.

    2. Could also be to extend the production of the current one.

  6. Why would they use an 8 spd, I will never buy a gm 8 spd again. Don’t care if it’s upgraded or different. 7 yrs of making a crappie transmission in the Colorado along with other vehicles. Ford puts 10 spds in almost everything. Stick with the 9 spd or 10, Get with the times gm. Bury the 8 spd.

    1. the 8 speed is the 9 speed without the 9th gear. this is not the 8 speed that was in the colorado, and trucks and camaro. Also I have the new Colorado and the 8 speed is fixed. No issues at all….

i had a 2019 terrain with 9 speed, really didn’t need the ninth gear, just make the 8th gear the same ratio as 9th and you get the same gas mileage.

  7. This article needs some checking. It says “nearly two months later” but May 17 to June 18 is only a month. Does the author mean July? Also, the 2024 is still in production until March according to GM quarterly call.

    1. April, not March, according to this site, See link above.

  8. I am wondering (and hoping) the delay to the Equinox and Terrain is to add some variation of the PHEV elements from the model in China as an option. Or at least to prepare the plant for it later in the model year.

  9. This looks like a twin sister of the 2022-2024 nissan pathfinder. Chevy really needa to work on their own designs instead of copying others!

  10. Hopefully GM has fixed all the issues that every equinox 1.5 turbo 4 cylinder generally have. They are garbage engines not reliable.
