The GM Authority Take
U.S. Cadillac sales slipped a bit during Q1 2024 on a year-over-year basis, with every model in the red.
The Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV duo had sales broken out a year ago but are combined this time around. Consequently, Q1 2023 sales of 9,228 units combined compared to Q1 2024 cumulative sales of 9,135 units show them being essentially flat year-over-year with a decrease of just 93 deliveries.
The upcoming refresh of the Escalade has been delayed. It’s scheduled to arrive for the 2025 model year. The flagship full-size luxury SUV will receive exterior styling revisions and feature a full-width, pillar-to-pillar infotainment display panel and will include a refresh of the high-performance Cadillac Escalade-V.
Deliveries of the luxury marque’s first-ever all-electric model, the Cadillac Lyriq compact crossover, continue to grow in the marketplace, with it actually moving more units than the luxury marque’s smallest crossover, the subcompact Cadillac XT4Â this time around.
The refreshed XT4 may begin boosting sales as it enters the marketplace. It currently shows the least decline among Cadillac’s crossovers.
The compact Cadillac XT5 had the biggest sales drop this quarter, followed by the midsize Cadillac XT6. There are officially no announced plans for an update for either model for North America.
The Cadillac CT4 and CT5 sedans fared worse than the utilities, both in the red by about the same amount. These model lines include the sport-focused Cadillac CT4-V and high-performance Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing, along with Cadillac CT5-V and Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, respectively.
For 2025, the CT5 received a refresh across the lineup, revealing new styling and tech along with more standard safety features along with new advanced ones, including a refresh of the CT5-V and the CT5-V Blackwing. Notably, the CT4 line did not.
On a related note, Cadillac is the only GM brand to offer sedans for sale other than the Bow Tie brand, which sells the Chevy Malibu.

Comments
Cadillac is absolutely underperforming. Basically, only ahead of Lincoln (rumored for extinction) and Infiniti in the luxury space, which isn’t saying much. If it weren’t for the Escalade, there’d be no point of maintaining the brand, at this point. I know, I know…Caddy sells in China, like Buicks. But, neither brand is a hit here in the States, anymore. GM honestly could shutter both Buick and Cadillac in the US, at this point. GMC could be folded into Chevrolet (Chevy already sells $100K plus trucks and Corvettes anyway), and call it a day. I don’t think lightly about this, Cadillac and Buick have such storied histories. But, the reality is few people want a Caddy outside of the Escalade – a re-badged, re-trimmed Tahoe or Suburban. GM is a company that sells just trucks and SUVs, and ONE sports car. Everything else is dying on the vine. Very sad. I know I’ll take heat for this comment, but the present situation at GM is the culmination of missteps for decades.
That is an inaccurate statement just for the sake of gloom and doom. It’s not like Cadillac is barely making any sales in the North American market.
For 2023, Cadillac was behind Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, Audi BUT ahead of everyone else including Porsche, Jaguar-Land Rover, Volvo, Acura, Lincoln, and Genesis (just to name a few).
Cadillac’s new EV direction will definitely bring in new customers who probably wouldn’t have ever looked at the brand (as we are seeing with Lyriq conquest sales) as luxury buyers are disproportionately more open to EVs than mainstream buyers.
Going EV is also allowing the brand to re-enter markets that were difficult to stay in before due to emissions regulations so forgive me if I don’t adopt your chicken little mindset.
Genesis and Acura will eventually pass Cadillac, and this sales in America, Cadillac’s home turf, it would be super embarrassing if unpopular Jaguar outsells Cadillac in America, Cadillac’s home turf.
Yeah, those EV’s are going to save everything……just wait.
I think the influx of Cadillac EV buyers is temporary and we’ll see the same trend we see with ICE vehicles eventually play out with their EVs.
They are new now, but will soon fall behind because Cadillac doesn’t have the bandwidth to evolve class leading vehicles.
The Escalade will live on, the others will slowly wither away
Cadillac Hearse Mobile (aka Celestiq) sales: 0.
GM….sorry, gm will pay the price for wasting money on the Optiq and a Lyriq and whatever and not updating the XT4, 5 & 6.
Keep pushing that EV crap sales will drop even more..I’m waiting to order the new XT5 only if it is the new design if not ,,no deal..
