The GM Authority Take
The notable drop in Chevrolet Brazil sales in January once again deepens the negative performance of the brand in South America’s largest country, where it had experienced two consecutive months of stable sales with slight drops of less than one percent. As such, Chevrolet’s setback in the first month of the new calendar year represents the brand’s third consecutive contraction in the Brazilian market.
Last month, Chevrolet Brazil’s top-selling models suffered notable sales declines – including the best-selling Chevy Onix and Chevy Tracker. The Onix had the most significant year-over-year loss, subtracting a substantial volume of 4,053 units compared to the result of the same month last year, which put it on the verge of losing sales leadership compared to the 9,180 deliveries of the Hyundai HB20 line in January. Despite everything, Chevrolet’s subcompact car remained the best-selling vehicle in the country.
In contrast, several nameplates posted healthy monthly sales increases, led by the all-new Chevy Montana compact pickup with a big four-digit jump over the last units of the discontinued previous-generation model. The excellent performance of the Chevy Camaro also stands out thanks to the start of marketing the Collection Series. Additionally, the Chevy Silverado recorded its highest monthly figure ever in the country in its second month of sales.
