The GM Authority Take
The drastic drop in Chevrolet Argentina sales during January deepens the Bow Tie brand’s negative performance in the South American country, with the results represent the third consecutive monthly decrease in sales. Severe difficulties in manufacturing and marketing vehicles in the local market are to blame for the disheartening performance.
While Chevrolet’s results are in line with major auto brands in the local market, the 45 percent drop was higher than the 33 percent decrease in the entire Argentine automotive market during the month.
In January, the vast majority of Chevrolet models offered in suffered double-digit drops, including the Chevy Tracker, which had recorded growth during previous months. Even so, the subcompact crossover continues as the brand’s best-selling model and the most popular utility vehicle in the South American country.
Meanwhile, the Chevy Cruze and Onix saw the highest decreases, sapping the Bow Tie brand of a combined 1,405 units year-over-year.
The Chevy Spin was the brand’s only nameplate that was in the green, though its increase was a minimal three units. Finally, the all-new Chevy Montana – imported from Brazil – continued to post low volume, recording 30 units per month in the Argentine market.

Comment
Argentina favors European cars. This is a market where Opel would have been successful. Amazing how GM dominates Brazil yet not other LATAM nations
