GM Mexico Sales Jump 48 Percent In January 2024

GM Mexico sales increased 48 percent to 15,459 units in January 2024 compared to January 2023 results. Sales increased at the Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC brands, while decreasing at Buick.

Brand & Model Sales

Chevrolet sales increased 49.41 percent 14,430 units:

Chevrolet Aveo sales increased 71.29 percent to 4,111 units
- The Mexico-market Aveo is a vehicle manufactured by China’s SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture
Chevrolet Blazer sales decreased 47.92 percent to 50 units
Chevrolet Bolt EUV sales were flat at 2 units
Chevrolet Camaro sales increased 150 percent to 20 units
Chevrolet Captiva sales increased 7.85 percent to 1,428 units
Chevrolet Cavalier sales decreased 23.43 percent to 183 units
Chevrolet Colorado sales increased 178.21 percent to 217 units
Chevrolet Corvette sales increased 66.67 percent to 5 units
Chevrolet Express sales decreased 21.05 percent to 15 units
Chevrolet Groove sales increased 154.1 percent to 1,611 units
Chevrolet Montana sales totaled 273 units
Chevrolet Onix sales increased 169.01 percent to 1,571 units
Chevrolet S10 Max sales increased 25.94 percent to 1,573 units
- The S10 Max is a midsize pickup imported from China, where it is sold as Maxus T70
Chevrolet Silverado sales increased 22.32 percent to 707 units
- Silverado sales include sales of the Silverado (available only in the Work Truck trim in Mexico) and the up-level Chevrolet Cheyenne (non-Work Truck models)
- Silverado sales totaled 371 units
- Cheyenne sales totaled 336 units
Chevrolet Suburban sales decreased 28.42 percent to 136 units
Chevrolet Tahoe sales increased 21.74 percent to 140 units
Chevrolet Tornado Van sales increased 1.4 percent to 1,087 units
- The Tornado Van is a small minivan imported from China, where it is sold as Wuling Hongguang V
Chevrolet Tracker sales decreased 12.58 percent to 903 units
Chevrolet Traverse sales increased 15.15 percent to 38 units
Chevrolet Trax sales totaled 360 units

Cadillac sales increased 55.74 percent to 95 units:

Cadillac Escalade sales increased 92.68 percent to 79 units
Cadillac Lyriq sales totaled 6 units
Cadillac XT5 sales increased 11.11 percent to 10 units

Buick sales decreased 0.55 percent to 180 units:

Buick Enclave sales decreased 30 percent to 35 units
Buick Encore sales decreased 63.87 percent to 43 units
- The Encore sold in Mexico is called the Buick Encore GX in the U.S. and Canada
Buick Envision sales increased 333.33 percent to 52 units
Buick Envista sales totaled 50 units

GMC sales increased 44.25 percent to 753 units:

GMC Acadia sales decreased 63.77 percent to 25 units
GMC Canyon sales totaled 45 units
GMC Sierra sales increased 42.16 percent to 381 units
GMC Terrain sales increased 145.26 percent to 233 units
GMC Yukon sales decreased 34.69 percent to 32 units
GMC Yukon XL sales decreased 9.76 percent to 37 units

The GM Authority Take

Not only did the the sharp increase in GM Mexico sales during January enable the automaker to start the new calendar year in the green, but it also represents the automaker’s 12^th consecutive monthly sales increase in the Latin country. The performance also means that GM sold over 5,000 more vehicles in January 2024 than it did during the same time a year ago.

As was the case in prior months, the all-new 2024 Chevy Aveo was responsible for GM’s substantial growth in January 2024. The completely redesigned subcompact car recorded the most significant increase, continuing to mark its position as the company’s best-selling vehicle in Mexico. The Chevy Groove, S10 Max, Onix and Captiva also recorded noteworthy increases during the month, becoming the second, third, fourth and fifth most popular GM models in the country, respectively.

GM’s truck line, meanwhile, had a healthy start to the year, with each nameplate seeing double and triple digit increases. The all-new Chevy Montana and all-new GMC Canyon added incremental volume to GM Mexico’s bottom line.

In total, GM pickup sales totaled 3,196 units in January as the automaker now has the most complete pickup truck lineup, spanning that spans compact to the Heavy Duty models.
