The GM Authority Take

Sales of a few GMC models were in the red year-over-year during the quarter, while utilities showed mixed results.

The GMC Yukon and Yukon XL full-size SUV duo had sales broken out a year ago but are combined this time around. Consequently, Q1 2023 sales of 19,723 units combined compared to Q1 2024 cumulative sales of 18,013 units, producing a decline of 8.67 percent.

Meanwhile, the GMC Acadia large crossover posted the next-to-worst drop in sales for the Professional Grade brand, while the GMC Terrain small crossover was the only utility to post a sales gain.

An all-new Terrain and next-generation Acadia are on the way, joined by a refreshed Yukon and Yukon XL later on.

Big Red’s trucks posted modest sales gains, with the GMC Sierra full-size pickup lineup being bested by the midsize GMC Canyon.

The marque’s first-ever all-electric model, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup full-size off-road supertruck, has been joined by its sibling, the GMC Hummer EV SUV, now selling side-by-side. The General expects the Hummer EV SUV to outsell the Pickup, with a 60-40 split.

Not surprisingly, sales of the dated GMC Savana had the worst showing among Big Red’s seven model lines. Along with the Chevy Express, the full-size van is an old vehicle that traces its roots to the 1990s, being the oldest GM model currently in production. A much-needed overhaul is overdue, but The General may have canceled plans for any next-generation vans.

On a positive note, GM has sold more than 3 million Chevy Express and GMC Savana units to date.

  3. Way over priced and interest rates are also high. Stop buying and force them to offer larger rebates/better incentives

  5. The truth about GMC is they have turned their backs on consumers. I bought a 2016 Yukon Denali on October 28 2023. After 5 days less then 200 miles the engine failed. Luckily I have a warranty.
Or maybe not. The warranty company approved 13,200. Dollars to replace the motor. So my truck is still sitting at the Dealership waiting for that motor to be installed. I delivered my truck to Dale Earnhardt Jr GMC Tallahassee on November 2023. I was told my truck would be ready for pickup on December 15 2023. Well that date came and went. I have been given 1 excuse after another why my truck is not complete. Here we are June 8 2024 and my truck is still untouched sitting in the dealership. And the message I’ve been given in the power that be at GMC cooperation has put all customer warranty on hold because they are fixing all their internal warranty issues first and all customers can just wait. The last conversation with service was a projected date of repair is now 2025 around March or April. Or I could take a 500.00 credit and buy something else. I am a the point invested over 7000. Dollars into this truck and they want me to just eat that loss and take a 500. Dollar credit. Please people do your research before you invest in a GMC product.

    2. That sounds like a warranty problem not GM problem. It sounds like a dealership warranty not a GM warranty. You need to sue the dealership.

  8. looks like the models driving the sales decrease should see increases in sales in Q2 (savannah and acadia had a stop sale and the strike at the plant), I’d say they’re in a good position

  9. I just read the Wall Street Journal article about how Americans are shunning new cars and it’s not just due to cost. The average age of cars in the US is now approaching 14 years. It says that many people feel the new cars are less dependable, and have too many high tech gadgets like touchscreens, CVT transmissions, too tiny of engines, driver assistance features, personal data security issues, start-stop technology and too expensive to maintain. Imagine that, so I’m not the only one hanging on to my 12 years old Silverado because I fear that a new one won’t be as good of a truck and I hate touchscreens and infotainment systems that are too dam complex for no good reason. Are you listening MaryJoe?
