GM China Sales Fall Five Percent In Q1 2024

GM China sales decreased five percent to 441,100 units during the first quarter of 2024. Sales decreased at Buick, Chevrolet, and Wuling brands, while increasing at Cadillac and Baojun.

SAIC-GM Sales – Q1 2024

First-quarter 2024 sales at SAIC-GM – GM’s primary joint venture in China responsible for Buick, Chevrolet, and Cadillac operations – decreased 10.8 percent to 154,500 units:

Buick sales decreased 3.10 percent to 103,000 units

  • The Buick GL8 family had combined sales of more than 20,000 units, bolstering its strong position in the MPV segment
    • GL8 will further diversify its offerings, with the nameplate’s first plug-in hybrid variant set for launch in Q2
  • The Ultium-based Buick Electra E5 and Electra E4 continued to build sales momentum in the mainstream electric crossover market

Chevrolet sales decreased 46.06 percent to 18,500 units

  • The Chevy Monza continues its robust performance as the brand’s best-selling car
  • The rest of Chevrolet’s models significantly decreased their sales volume during the Q1

Cadillac sales increased 1.54 percent to 33,000 units

  • The Cadillac CT5 luxury sedan maintained outstanding performance in the first quarter
    • The CT5 remained the brand’s top-selling model, with deliveries exceeding 18,000 units
  • In Q2, the all-new Cadillac Optiq will join the Cadillac Lyriq as the brand’s second Ultium-based EV to attract young, aspiring customers

SAIC-GM-Wuling Sales – Q1 2024

First-quarter 2024 sales at SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) – GM’s other Chinese joint venture responsible for Wuling and Baojun brands – decreased 1.0 percent to 286,500 units:

Baojun sales increased 123.08 percent to 5,800 units

  • GM did not share any specific sales data on Baojun models
  • The brand is in the midst of a transformation process with a new focus on electric models led by the all-new Baojun Yep

Wuling sales decreased 2.02 percent to 280,700 units

  • The Wuling Bingo EV sold more than 32,000 units in the Q1
    • The nameplate strengthened its growth momentum in Q1 after launching the Wuling Bingo Plus variants with an extended EV range
  • The all-new Wuling Starlight PHEV exceeded 21,000 units sold, achieving a solid start for SGMW’s new NEV architecture
