The GM Authority Take

Once again, the negative performance of Chevrolet Brazil sales in February deepens the brand’s poor streak in the South American country – its second-largest volume market internationally. Last month’s new double-digit drop represents Chevrolet’s fourth consecutive contraction in the Brazilian market, where it continues to lose market share and is positioned in third place among the best-selling brands.

Chevrolet Brazil’s poor performance in February was caused by significant declines in several popular models, including the top-selling Chevy Onix and Chevy Tracker. Notably, the subcompact car officially lost sales leadership in Brazil and dropped to third position on the podium last month, when it was surpassed by the Fiat Strada (8,568 units) and the Volkswagen Polo (8,063 units). Even so, the Onix remained the best seller in the year’s first two months.

On the other hand, several Chevy nameplates managed to increase their monthly sales. Among them, the most significant were the drastic increase of the all-new Chevy Montana and the healthy growth of the Chevy S10, which once again exceeded 2,000 units to regain second place among the best-selling pickups in Brazil. Additionally, the notable triple-digit increases experienced by the Chevy Camaro, Corvette, and Cruze in February also stand out.
