General Motors has teased the forthcoming next-generation GMC Terrain crossover, expected to debut for the 2025 model year. The teaser provides a look at the 2025 Terrain’s redesigned front fascia, which is closely aligned with the aesthetics of its stablemates, the refreshed 2025 GMC Yukon and the all-new 2024 GMC Acadia. GM declined to state exactly when the new Terrain will be unveiled, but did indicate that a debut is expected “later this year.”
The focal point of the teaser is the 2025 Terrain’s front fascia, in particular the reshaped headlight housings, which feature a new C-shaped lighting signature. Badging on the grille indicates that this model is an example of the off-road-flavored AT4 trim level. The grille also incorporates a blend of black and silver trim, and we also see a black finish for the sideview mirrors.
In addition to a revised exterior, the next-generation GMC Terrain is expected to borrow heavily from the interior design of the new GMC Acadia. Prospective buyers can look forward to an updated infotainment system with a vertically oriented, portrait-style central infotainment display and digital screen behind the steering wheel.
Under the hood, the 2025 Terrain is expected to cradle the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine, while the GM eight-speed automatic will be the exclusive transmission pairing. Both front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations will be on hand to put the power down. Under the body, the 2025 GMC Terrain is expected to ride on the updated GM D2 architecture.
As GM Authority covered previously, production of the next-generation GMC Terrain was originally expected to kick off halfway through the 2024 calendar year. Now, however, production is not expected to begin until October of 2024. The reason behind the delay is not clear at this time. Production will take place at the GM San Luis Potosi plant in Mexico.

Too bad they didn’t put an engine with more horse power in it but the glimpses of the exterior does look promising.

I wish GM would still give the option for a more powerful engine. The 2.0T is the same size as the 1.5T so does not take much more engineering. They eliminated the 2.0L and the diesel because of low demand, but it wasn’t no demand. Once someone switches brands to get the right size vehicle with the power they want, they probably won’t come back to GM.
GM really needs to dump the 1.5 l4 and put the 2.0T in this car. I get trying to keep the costs under control. But the current engine is so uninspring on the throttle. No one is asking for a performance version of the Terrain. But a little more life under the hood would make this so much more attractive. Ultimately, after the tech and look update of this vehicle, It’s gonna end up coming down to this powertrain for quite a few people, and that’s where the Terrain is gonna fail.
Or just put a decent size engine like a non-turbo 2.5. The whole reason all the cars now have small Turbos is for better gas millage. However, they test these on a dino machine with no load varrying load on the engine (like having to pull the vehicle’s weight uphill or from a stand still) so they give good numbers. but under real driving conditions Turbo’s do not get decent millage! They get great power, but that is becuase they suck alot of fuel to mix with the extra air. I got beeter milleage from my 1986 Olds Cutlass Ciera with the Iron duke engine (38 mpg highway eith 87 Octain) than I do from my 2023 Cadillac CT-4 2.0 Turbo with 93 (required).
The current turbo 1.5 is far better than the old atmospheric 2.4 in the Equinox or the 2.5’s GM had in other vehicles. Our 1.5 Turbo equinox is better in every way than the our 2012 Equinox with the loud, rough and slow 2.4. The torque curve on the 1.5 is very good and the 1.5 turbo feels far faster than it is due to the low end torque. I wonder if all the complainers have ever driven the 1.5 turbo Equinox? They are probably all in their 80’s and want the 3800 V6 back.
That 1.5 engine is begging for a 40-45kw motor and 36-38mpg City.
The 1.5T is ok. It needs to go full hybrid.
GM is risking the company by not offering Hybrid versions of their vehicles. Toyota will soon dominate the industry with their broad line of Hybrids.
They will soon however.
It’s pretty sad when people are begging for GMs underpowered 2.0t because it’s more powerful than what they can actually get.
I want he base engine to be the 2.0T like the cadillac xt4 has and the HO 2.0T from the camaro in the ST model. (throw back to the 90’s sierra ST sport trim) 😉
The teaser covers a small percentage of the overall design, and I already like it more than the new Equinox. More please!
Leased a 22 SLT, the engine made me regret this decision almost immediately, dull response from stop, buzzy, and gas mileage nothing to brag about for such a small engine. Many bigger engines out there that have more power and way better fuel economy. The 25 Terrain looks very promising both inside and out, with my lease ending in 25 will give it a look, having been a GM loyalist. Unfortunately with this engine as the only option, I will more than likely be moving away from GM vehicles.
Good luck. If you want more power buy a Mazda. GMC seems to be lacking in this segment- in terms of efficiency and power.
The vast majority of Rav4s are sold with a NA 2.5L that is loud and buzzy and makes less torque. The same is true of the CR-V with only a more powerful hybrid variant on the top trims. There isn’t a more powerful version of the Rogue which also has a 1.5T. Most CX-5 do not have the 2.5 Turbo. Same is true on the Korean side as well. 2.4L or 1.6L Turbo engines.
The 2.0L upgrade would be nice, but the 1.5L meets the needs of 90% of the audience. The LSY was supposed to replace the LTG but Covid scuttled that engineering exercise. Could make a comeback if demand wavers on the new models. I would think a hybrid system might be more likely though. They need the fuel economy numbers from the Terrain to offset the full size SUVs and trucks in the line-up.
If you want a Terrain sized vehicle with a 2.0L let me introduce you to the much nicer Buick Envision….
Agree on the Buick Envision. When the lease was up on my wife’s GMC Terrain with the 2 liter turbo, I did not want to lease a newer Terrain with the small 1.5 engine.
The 2022 Buick Envision also has a 9-speed automatic. With the 2 liter turbo it has plenty of power and still gets decent mileage on the highway.
It’s crazy to me that they are already talking about the 2025 models and I haven’t seen any of the 2024 models on the car lots. I was out on the Chevy dealership and they had none of the new Chevy traverse yet, any new Tahoes, lots of trucks, same at the Cadillac dealership. I’ve been waiting to see the new Arcadia, none yet. The dealerships seems to be lacking the 2024 models and getting ready for the 2025. Are we skipping 2024?
GMC should offer a 6cy. The 4 is nor good and towing is weak. Don’t buy the 2024.
