2025 Chevy Equinox Activ: The Rugged-Looking One

General Motors officially unveiled the 2025 Chevy Equinox in January 2024, introducing the fourth-generation of the Bow Tie brand’s compact crossover. As GM Authority readers already know, there is an extensive list of changes and updates to the next-gen model, including a revamped trim level structure. In this GM Authority Feature Spotlight, we’re taking a look at what sets the Equinox Activ trim apart from the other trims.

First and foremost, Activ is the rugged-looking trim within the 2025 Equinox lineup. It’s joined by LT, which is the new base, and the sporty-looking Equinox RS.

Starting with the exterior, the front fascia of each trim level is unique. In the case of the Equinox Activ, the front fascia features a unique grille with vertical inserts and gray metallic-finished accents. These elements combine to deliver a rugged-looking front fascia. There’s also blacked-out badging along with an available white roof for a two-tone finish.

The ensemble rides on a set of 17-inch machined-face aluminum wheels wrapped in a set of all-terrain tires, both exclusive to the Activ trim.

We should note that the Equinox Activ does not deliver any performance enhancements over LT or RS, with the potential exception of the obvious advantages offered by its smaller wheels and all-terrain tires off the pavement.

Inside, the Equinox Activ features Evotex seating surfaces – GM’s brand for synthetic leather – finished in Maple Sugar and Black colorway. The Activ logo is embroidered on the headrests of the two front seats. Heated and ventilated front seats as well as heated rear outboard seats will be available, as is a memory driver seat.

Under the hood, all 2025 Chevy Equinox models – including the Activ – feature the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine, rated at 175 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque in front-wheel-drive (FWD) variants, or 203 pound-feet of torque in all-wheel-drive (AWD) units. Speaking of drivetrain configurations, FWD units are mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT), while AWD examples are matched to the GM eight-speed automatic transmission. An additional upgrade for the new generation includes Electronic Precision Shift on the steering column, which enables additional storage space underneath the infotainment screen.

Note that the engine carries over from the last generation, while the transmissions are all-new. A more powerful engine option is not offered (check out Chevy’s reasoning for that).

The fourth-gen Chevy Equinox rides on an updated variant of the GM D2 platform, where the wheelbase, length, and width have all been stretched for the all-new generation. Production will kick off at the GM San Luis Potosí plant in May 2024. The plant will be the exclusive facility to build the new Equinox for North America. Pricing figures and a complete feature set are expected to be released closer to the start of production.

  1. I like it. Kinda not really but maybe a little bit wish I could have seen one before I bought the Trax but maybe not.

      1. …as long as they find a way to do it without compromising the existing seating or cargo space.

Can’t help but think that if they could put Voltec technology in an Equinox (or Trax, or even Trailblazer, and the platform mates), and kept the price under control, they’d have a hit in today’s marketplace. Jeepers, the Volt would probably sell better than ever, now.

      2. It’s available as a PHEV in China, I’m sure we’ll be getting one here, too. Wouldn’t take much to add those parts to the assembly line.

  2. I like the look, it’s a rugged miniature replica of the upcoming Traverse and Tahoe. if I were to go for a SUV upon my next purchase, this would be on my list of choices.
