The Subaru Crosstrek held the top spot with an eight percent dip in sales to 38,405 units. The Honda HR-V moved up to second place with a 44 percent bump to 38,062 units. In addition to the two Chevy models, GM’s Buick currently fields three entries. The Buick Encore GX (see running Buick Encore GX sales), the Trailblazer’s platform mate, placed 11th with a nine percent increase to 13,364 units. The Buick Envista (see running Buick Envista sales), the Trax’s VSS-F platform mate, moved to 14th place with 9,662 deliveries. The Trailblazer earned a seven percent market share in its segment, down three percentage points year-over-year. The Crosstrek and HR-V also each held an 11 percent segment share, with the Crosstrek down four percentage points and the HR-V up a point. The Trax posted an 11 percent market share, up nine percentage points. The CX-30 and Compass both held an eight percent share, with the CX-30 up a point and the Compass maintaining its share. The three other GM models in this space fared as follows:
- Encore GX maintained a four percent share
- Envista earned a three percent share
- Encore’s share was nil, down a percentage point
The five GM vehicles in the mainstream subcompact crossover segment, the Chevy Trax and Trailblazer, along with the Buick Envista, Encore, and Encore GX, accounted for a cumulative 84,877 deliveries. That was good for a 25 percent segment share, commanding a quarter of all sales in this space and enough to solidly keep The General in first place overall. Huge Chevy Trax sales numbers have contributed significantly to this achievement.

Meanwhile, Hyundai – with the Kona and Venue – and Kia – with the Seltos, Niro, and Soul – saw a cumulative 63,696 deliveries, good for a combined 19 percent segment share, placing the Korean conglomerate behind GM in second place overall.

An argument can be made that the Kia Soul is not part of the segment in question but rather competes one segment below based on its size and price point. Removing the Soul from the Hyundai-Kia entries total nets 51,244 deliveries for a combined 15 percent segment share, keeping the conglomerate in second.

Out of the 10 manufacturers represented here, three field multiple models in this space of now 21 entries, though one of those models has been discontinued and will eventually fall off this list. When combining the sales volume of those compared to automakers with a single entry, each ranks in this order:
- GM – 25 percent share, five models (the Buick Encore has been discontinued, joined now by its indirect replacement, the first-ever Buick Envista)
- Hyundai Motor Group
- 19 percent segment share, five models (including Kia Soul)
- 15 percent share, four models (not including Kia Soul)
- Stellantis – 12 percent share, four models (the Fiat 500X has been discontinued while the all-new Dodge Hornet joins the segment)
- Subaru – 11 percent share, one model
- Honda – 11 percent share, one model
- Mazda – eight percent share, one model
- Toyota – six percent share, one model
- Nissan – four percent share, one model
- VW – three percent share, one model
- Mitsubishi – one percent share, one model
Lately, it seems that automakers fielding multiple entries in this segment enjoy better sales and higher deliveries, but those with a single model, including Subaru and Honda, seem to hold their own comparatively.
GM placed first place again ahead of Hyundai Motor Group (including Kia) this quarter.
Overall, the mainstream subcompact crossover segment swelled 24 percent to 343,607 units during Q1 2024, meaning that Chevy Trailblazer sales significantly underperformed the segment average.
The GM Authority Take
Chevy Trailblazer sales again slipped while the segment grew during the first quarter of 2024. Meanwhile, sales of the Trailblazer’s corporate cousin, the Chevy Trax, remained robust and within about 800 units of first. This continuing trend causes us to wonder if all those lost Chevy Trailblazer sales are going to the Trax even though the former model offers all-wheel drive while the new entry-level model does not.
Regardless, GM came out on top thanks to combined Chevy and Buick subcompact crossover sales, with the automaker maintaining its six percentage point segment share distance from the Hyundai-Kia conglomerate in terms of cumulative sales volume in the highly contested and crowded mainstream subcompact crossover segment. In fact, The General claimed a quarter of all sales in this space that fields 21 entries.
About Chevrolet Trailblazer
A year ago, GM revealed the refreshed 2024 Chevy Trailblazer, showing off updated styling, an overhauled cockpit, new standard features, and more for the small crossover. This iteration of the Trailblazer debuted for the 2021 model year. The 2024 Trailblazer also introduces two new exterior paint colors, offering five interior colorways and wheel options.
For 2024, the small crossover also gets several option package changes, including a new trailering package.
Last month, GM announced it would increase production of the Trailblazer RS trim level to meet customer demand.
Production of the 2025 Chevy Trailblazer is currently scheduled to commence on April 1st. The 2025 model gets an E85-compatible engine, making it a flex-fuel vehicle.
In November 2021, the Trailblazer received a perfect reliability rating by Consumer Reports. This was followed by the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer earning a 2022 Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in February 2022, following the same award from IIHSÂ in September 2021 for the 2021 Chevy Trailblazer. Last December, Consumer Reports gave the 2023 Chevy Trailblazer a “recommended” rating.

Two things that don’t help it are lack of inventory, and the lack of decent lease deals. It’s cheaper to lease an Equinox over a Trailblazer and Trax. They keep shipping us those 1500s that no one wants though!
It’s also cheaper to buy a ’24 Nox over a TB due to hefty discounts. Plus a generously-equipped FWD TB LT is almost the same sticker as a ’24 Nox LT and that’s insane.
Once the ’24 Nox goes away, however, ATPs on the new Nox will rise a LOT due to tiny discounts and that alone could help sales of the TB.
So put big discounts on them, for chrissakes! I can see the Trax selling for MSRP or close to it, but I prefer the TB due to its higher ride height and more available features. And I’m willing to pay for them, but not close to their inflated MSRPs. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist. And make more!
in Denver. Zwhere are all of the trailblazer R/S,s
Next year give it a hybrid 2.0 with 200 HP.
I believe Trax production are being prioritized over tge Trailblazer. I also believe because of this, Trax are more available at dealers, now combine that with good looks and price the Trax is a high seller. GM should do some more to get Trailblazer sales moving, incentives advertising promotions in select areas will go a long way to increase Trailblazer sales.
They are built in totally different plants. Trax/Envista in one, TB and GX in another. GM is prioritizing production of the Encore GX over the TB. GXs are everywhere on dealer lots. The GX is smaller with a smaller cargo hold and priced even more basurdly than the TB. But GXs have hefty discounts. TBs do not, due to supply issues.
With sales down maybe I will get my RS Headrest , I’ve had them order for a year [ 2023 Trailblazer ]
That’s SCARY. Not an endorsement for Korean-made GMs, at all.
Yet despite the drop in sales it still outsold other prominent competitors like Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, VW Taos, and even the Toyota Corolla Cross. So GM, please don’t be killing off this model.
Weird because I see 100 Seltos’ and Kicks for every TB. Maybe rentals because I live in a high-tourist area.
Cause it’s not a Trailblazer… Trailblazer had a chassis and a decent motor, no matter 4×4 or AWD or 2×4…. The new “Things ” ain’t Trailblazer… GM should name them City Crossover or something else…
Ordered my cacti green RS AWD w leather in November, finally took delivery march 28.
The on display radio volume knob is small and in a poor location, the center arm rest needs to be longer. Few complaints thus far.
Went with AWD, just wasn’t sure about the CVT transmnsmission in a non AWD vehicle.
Wondering if a way to find out production number of vehicles like mine.
