The 2024 Chevy Trailblazer introduced a model refresh complete with new exterior styling, a new cabin, and more standard features, with customers once again given a variety of trim levels to choose from. A total of four trim levels are currently on the table, including the base-model LS, the mid-range LT, the sporty RS, and the rugged Activ. Now, GM Authority has learned that General Motors will increase production of the Chevy Trailblazer RS in order to meet customer demand.
Looking back at the 2024 model year, the sales mix for the 2024 Chevy Trailblazer breaks down as follows:
- LS: 19 percent
- LT: 39 percent
- RS: 22 percent
- Activ: 20 percent
However, heading into the 2025 model year, GM is expecting a slightly different sales mix:
- LS: 15 percent
- LT: 40 percent
- RS: 30 percent
- Activ: 15 percent
One of the big differences between these sales mix figures is an eight-percent boost to production of the Trailblazer RS for the 2025 model year, as well as a reduction in the production percentages for the base-model LS and outdoorsy Activ.
Logically, a production decrease for the Trailblazer LS makes sense, given the Trailblazer shares dealer lots with the more-affordable Chevy Trax. With that in mind, it’s likely that budget-minded customers see the Trax as the more attractive vehicle, making the Trailblazer LS less necessary.
It’s also worth pointing out that GM is expecting the sporty RS to outsell the outdoorsy Active by two to one. This would imply that the the average Trailblazer customer prefers the sporty styling of the RS to the more rugged attitude of the Activ.
LS | LT | RS | ACTIV | |
---|---|---|---|---|
2024 MY | 19% | 39% | 22% | 20% |
2025 MY | 15% | 40% | 30% | 15% |
+/- 2025 | -4% | -1% | +8% | -5% |
Unfortunately, Chevy Trailblazer sales vastly underperformed the segment average during Q4 of the 2023 calendar year.
As a reminder, the Trailblazer cradles the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine as standard, while the turbocharged 1.3L I3 L3T gasoline engine is optional. The GM VSS-F vehicle set provides the underpinnings. Production of the North American-spec 2025 Trailblazer is expected to kick off at the GM Bupyeong plant in South Korea in April.

LT is the sweet spot in the lineup, but all TBs are overpriced. IF GM increased production of all TBs and dealers put a bit more cash on their hoods, I’ll bet sales would best a lot more of the competition, even with the Trax sitting next to them.
I agree, The Trailblazer RS is a great looking Ute. But Most are in the $31-$33,000 MSRP range. That price puts it at the same price as a decently equipped Equinox LT AWD. And the Equinox has a much, much better lease offer on it. GM needs to rethink the pricing. There a many options from many brands for customers to choose from in this price range!
That’s the point I was trying to make before with the article about the sales decline of the Trailblazer. I noticed better rebates on the Equinox and wondered if its not because of the Trax (which has no rebates at all but still a well priced car) but rather the Equinox for the decline in sales. Many people are probably just going for the larger Equinox if the rebates leave it with just a tad bit more money for the larger and roomier vehicle over the smaller TB.
I ordered a fully loaded RS on September 1,2023. I was told it would be a six month wait. That has now been changed to a seven month wait. I’m not in a big rush to get it ,but that kind of wait probably has caused the decline in the Q4 sales .
Gilbert, I can tell you first hand that any Trailblazer or Trax that is ordered is taking an average of 8 months to arrive for me. I realize where you are located in the country along with what your dealers port of entry is will have an impact on the timeframe, but, I have yet to get one in only 6 months, I wish dealers would set the right expectations for customers. I hope you get your new car soon! The fact that allocation has been lack luster and the list of constraints is large is not helping with overall availability!
I ordered a fully loaded RS in December, 2023. I was also told it would be a six to seven month wait. I agree with Gilbert that this would cause a decline in sales. I also can wait for my new vehicle so I ordered this beautiful and really sporty looking Trailblazer.
Too bad they didn’t build the Trax and Trailblazer in the USA. The wait times are ridiculous. I have Trax units ordered over 10 months ago and they still aren’t here. It will be almost a year by the time they arrive. Logistics is a nightmare!
You mean Mexico.
Make an RS with all wheel drive and the 9 speed transmission and drop the Activ.
If GM is going to do a turbo 3 make it a 1.5 with at least 180hp. And make it only available with the 9 speed no cvt. It would get better gas mileage and be much more performant. 1.2 and 1.3 engines are pathetic
A few days ago there was an article that sales have tanked and speculation that the Trax was to blame. Now they are saying they need to increase production to meet demand? Did I miss something here? If they needed an answer as to why the Trailblazer sales suddenly decreased did they not just answer their own question?
I would imagine that fact that the Trailblazer is so expensive, and has a terrible lease are contributing factors. I’m sure the Trax has had an impact. For example, if you are looking for FWD, it is very hard to make a case for the Trailblazer. Same engine offering as the Trax but with a CVT instead of the Trax 6 speed and at a higher cost with less options. And if you need AWD, with any options on it you are in Equinox territory.
I wouldn’t buy anything with a 3 cylinder engine
From the linked Q4 ’23 sales in the report:
“The five GM vehicles in the mainstream subcompact crossover segment, the Chevy Trax and Trailblazer, along with the Buick Envista, Encore, and Encore GX, accounted for a cumulative 84,456 deliveries. That was good for a 24 percent segment share, commanding nearly a quarter of all sales in this space and enough to solidly place The General in first place, while the Trax [with its 3 cylinder engine] alone almost took the top spot.”.
Sales count more than opinions.
We just bought a 2024 Trailblazer RS 3 weeks ago. Our dealership only had the AWD in blue, which we didn’t want, so they got one in silver from another dealership hours away. It only has 1200 miles on it but I’ve been pleased. Miss my Escape, but the sunroof/moonroof and Bose speakers make me feel better.
