Cadillac Brand Second To Last In Consumer Reports December 2024 Reliability Report

Cadillac ranked very low in Consumer Reports 2024 reliability ratings, which uses survey ratings from 2022, 2023, 2024 and “some early 2025 [model year] data” to rank automotive brands on a scale of 1 to 100 points.

Cadillac scored just 27 points in this year’s survey, putting it at twenty-first out of 22 brands. Only Rivian, with a rating of 14 points, was deemed to be less reliable than GM’s luxury brand.

The report didn’t give a full breakdown of individual Caddy models, with separate ratings offered only for two of its nameplates. The Cadillac XT5 crossover, one of the marque’s legacy ICE models, achieved a rating of 48 points, putting it well above average for an American vehicle.

Meanwhile, the Cadillac Lyriq, one of the brand’s leading EV models for popularity, scored a jaw-dropping 5 pointsout  of 100, a low score equaled only by another GM electric vehicle – the Chevy Blazer EV, also rated at 5 out of 100 for dependability.

Overall, EVs scored worse for reliability than ICE models across the board. Electric vehicles had 42 percent more problems than baseline internal combustion models in 2024. However, this is a strong improvement from 2023, when EV problems were 79 percent more frequent than ICE. PHEVs had 70 percent more problems, again down from 146 percent more a year ago.

EV problems weren’t wholly due to powertrain problems, with infotainment systems and other tech features also being sources of unreliability. American brands were the least reliable vehicles, rating 38 out of 100 on average. European vehicles are next, scoring 48, while Asian brands remain the most reliable, with an overall 57 rating.

Notably, Cadillac makes some of the few sedans still in the GM lineup, including the CT4, CT5, and their V-series and Blackwing derivatives. A leading CR testing director, Jake Fisher, remarks that “as a class, sedans remain very reliable,” adding that vehicles with this body style “remain a practical choice.”

Fisher also remarked that “even within high-ranking companies, there can be significant variation in reliability.”

      1. 2021 ct4 was a carefree trouble free cool car that I loved. Due to physical limitations I had to trade it in a few weeks back. I really needed something I could step up into
I loved the car and that 2.5 turbo four was quick as a cat running from a dog. Highly recommend one.

    2. Should we be happy that this once prestigious and best selling AMERICAN luxury brand is now dead last in almost every category? Should there not be any accountability?

    3. The problem is that everything you’ve just said is true. I like GM which is why I don’t like Mary and her golf cart social experiment that’s killing the company. GM has a fatal amount of debt. It’s gone by 2030.

  2. And that rushed-to-market half-baked Lyriq also pulled down the Prologue, Blazer EV and Equinox EV. Great job GM, especially since that’s all you do these days.

  7. Wife loves our 2024 XT4 Premium Luxury Radiant Red Tintcoat purchased in October. $47,615 list with $1500 off sticker. But of course this model being axed in 2025 to build more ev’s most people don’t want. Kind of like my son’s bought new 2017 Garnet Red Tintcoat Camaro RS, A8 no issues since flush) V6 that small font gm killed again. Little gm builds more and more of what they want potential buyers to buy, not what we want. Sad.

  8. Regardless of any gm fan’s opinion, CR is seen by the broader readership as an objective and trusted source that caries a not-insignificant impact on buyer’s perception. This is not a good look for gm or Cadillac.

    1. Not only that but if one were to peruse any Cadillac owners forum, they are littered with comments from Lyriq owners experiencing troubles. Maybe they are teething problems that’ll eventually be worked out but they’re common to Ultium products right now and would tend to support Cadillac’s penultimate performance in Consumer Reports’ surveys. I don’t think there’s some bias against the brand or GM.

  9. I bought a 2017 XT5 and every time I take it to the dealer for an oil change they find something wrong that’s never less than 400 dollars try to trade it in for an EV said I was up side down on the loan,I make the batteries for the EV’S WITH ALL THE DISCOUNTS THEY STILL WANTED MONEY FROM ME.you would think they would be better

    1. Mary, are you sure that you aren’t being taken advantage of by the dealer, do you actually understand what it is that they are telling you they found wrong with the vehicle? If not, take someone with you on the next oil change that may have a better understanding of automotive issues.
Not trying to be offensive, but if you need the dealership to tell you you’re upside down on your loan without knowing that yourself, it sounds like they may be taking advantage of you when it comes to needed (but not really needed) repairs. Best of luck.

  11. I bought my 2024 CT4 because I could not get another Camaro. I went with it because of how surprisingly similar they both drive but the Caddy is just smooth. However, I won’t be buying from this brand when the Caddy goes. There are too many quality issues for me. The seat…the bolted down seat is so rickety and makes noise while I drive; still under 5K miles. The only thing that drowns it out is blasting the Bose system. I hate the sound of the engine. It has been described as uncouth which I find to be spot on. How does the tires have issues staying inflate? Only Caddy can answer that. Sometimes the remote start will work thru the app. Other times I go out to a cold vehicle. The wireless charger! The wireless charging is so iffy and unreliable that I gave up after the first 60 days. Let’s not talk about the lack-luster interior but I’m good on the exterior. That’s about the only silver-lining with how handsome the vehicle looks besides being so smooth.

Quality, Quality, Quality! The death of Caddy is its take on providing a Cadillac of Cars.

  16. I have a 22 CT4 350T with the sport package. The car handles great and I have no issues with interior (sangria leather), nor the exterior tricoat white. The phone charging rarely yields more than 2-3 % but most of my trips are 20-30 minutes in town driving and the cabin could be a little quieter. I think the low profile tires that come with the sport package contribute to the cabin noise.

    1. I gave up on run flats years ago for my 2015 ATS. Conventional rubber definitely helps the ride and interior noise!
