Out of the 11 manufacturers represented in this space of 23 entries, eight offer multiple models. However, some automakers with just one model in this segment sometimes outsell them. Here is the overall rank of automakers, in order:
- Hyundai Motor Group – 20 percent segment share, four models
- Ford – 19 percent share, two models
- Stellantis – 14 percent share, three models
- Toyota – 14 percent share, three models
- GM – 9 percent share, three models
- Honda – 8 percent share, two models
- VW – 5 percent share, one model
- Nissan – 5 percent share, two models
- Mitsubishi – 3 percent share, one model
- Subaru – 3 percent share, one model
- Mazda – 2 percent share, two models
Sales of midsize and full-size mainstream crossovers, comprised of models with a starting price in the vicinity of $30K, were flat for 492,637 units during Q1 2024. That means GMC Acadia sales significantly underperformed the segment average.
The GM Authority Take
GMC Acadia sales dropped another three spots from this quarter, placing now just 21st among 23 entries. That puts it nearly last, especially when we discount the discontinued Mazda CX-9.
A generational changeover to the all-new 2024 GMC Acadia announced last fall could be the main reason for the downturn as crossover shoppers await a bigger, all-new model that GM hopes will bring back customers, especially female buyers. However, production of the 2024 Acadia was pushed back to March 4th, ramp-up was delayed.
About GMC Acadia
The 2023 GMC Acadia arrives with minimal changes over the previous year’s model, the 2022 GMC Acadia.
This past September, GM unveiled the all-new 2024 GMC Acadia, introducing a wealth of updates and changes over the preceding 2023 model year, including larger dimensions, more tech, and a new turbocharged engine, along with a bunch of new safety features and heated wipers. Critically, the third-generation Acadia will be available in several specific trim levels – base Elevation, off-road-oriented AT4, and range-topping Denali. Additionally, the Elevation trim will exclusively offer a new Black Edition package.
For the first time ever, the next-gen 2024 Acadia will offer GM Super Cruise, the automaker’s semi-autonomous driving assist technology, thanks to being equipped with GM’s new Global B electronic architecture. Critically, Super Cruise will be available on the 2024 Acadia Elevation and AT4 trim levels. The all-new Acadia arrives as the very first GMC vehicle to offer Super Cruise on Elevation and AT4 trims and the first to offer Super Cruise on all trim levels.
The 2024 GMC Acadia is motivated by the turbocharged 2.5L I4 LK0 gasoline engine as the sole powertrain, rated at 328 horsepower and 326 pound-feet of torque. Output is directed through the GM eight-speed automatic transmission, with all-wheel drive offered as optional on Elevation, Elevation Premium, and Denali. AT4 trims are equipped with a unique Active Torque Control AWD system as standard.

I purchased one of the last ones on the lot in a few hundred mile radius around me. I wanted a V6 while still available. You can’t sell what there isn’t available.
acadia sales dropped cause they stopped making them, and cause the prices are inflated dealerships are overcharging which is a big turn off. there is very high demand for these but GM doesnt want to sell them
Just another crossover, now with 4-banger as the only engine option. Good luck with that. The chick manager who said that customers don’t care what is under the hood should be fired. Because of her GM’s small crossovers have the tiniest of 4-cyl turbos with no optional larger engine for mountain driving, towing, or just because. GM needs to hire people with vehicle and customer knowledge and experience.
Fred, lets address your incorrect issues. First and foremost, I am guessing you are a fan of the current V6? Great! This new motor is better in every way, including the tons of low end torque (20% more at lower and flatter RPM).
Most customers don’t care what is under the hood in this segment, it has replaced the minivans. They want good power (which this has), good mpg (which this has for not being a hybrid) and they want it to drive well in the city and highway (which this will do with the abundance of torque that made the old V6 lacking). They don’t make these decisions without tons of sessions both with current customers and competitors giving their input. They know more than you, trust me.
The turbo motor will be much better at mountain driving than the current V6 that most people didn’t have any real complaints on, so they just improved it and it will be much welcomed! Only the uninformed complain about an overall improvement in power, mpg and powerband when the prior motor wasn’t much of a complaint by had plenty of room for improvement.
So explain to me why they don’t sell. The Traverse, Acadia, Ct4, and 4-cyl Silverados are all non sellers. You sound just like the person who made the decision. I understand the stats but they don’t mean anything if people won’t buy them. I know that much, just common sense, I guess they asked the wrong people. Check out the comment votes, these are real customers and they agree with me.
They can’t sell what isn’t available. I do know used 2022’s and 23’s are selling like crazy. Everyone I find in a 100 miles radius is gone within a couple of days if reasonably priced and each dealer I have soke to says these are one of their hottest selling models. Will be interesting how the new larger 2024 will fare in comparison.
Joe and Dan (above): So why are these not available? I personally could care less and GMC doesn’t even register on my radar nor does an SUV. But there’s no restrictions any more. There’s no chip shortages any more. Where I work, Mazda is pumping out a sickening amount of those turd CX90’s and CX30’s. Volvo is pumping out tons of XC90’s and XC60’s. So I truly ask, what gives here? Why are you saying dealer don’t have them? Obviously it’s not because they are selling so well or the numbers wouldn’t be so bad.
We are facing an affordability problem. A credit usage problem. A market that is way over saturated with SUV/CUV problem. These modern day station wagons turned mini-vans turned SUV’s are now so over-produced and pushed that they need to hit one of three criteria in order to win: 1. Be just a really good one. 2. Be very affordable. 3. Be from a brand that has a following where they will buy anything that brand puts out (Toyota???). GMC Acadia’s hit none of them.
The V6 is a fantastic engine. Tried and true.
Perhaps sales are down due to the “sexy” push button gear shifter. Although they were a thing on the 50s and 60s Plymouths.
sales are down because of the strike and switching to this new model has taken longer than expected
Check the Towing spect. For the V/6 against the turbo 4 banger !That’s the Big Difference, while people want 2023’s V/ the 4 Cy And NO Firm Date When ’24 will be Assembled .They might think about NEW 2025 Skip ‘ 24’s almost a year Old !!! When it Hits the streets !!
When will thwre be 2024 Acadias available in Texas? Nobody wants the 2023 WAY TO SMALL!
Everyone. Including dealers and ME want to know when the 2034 Acadia will be delivered. I have one on order. Already manufactured ( I have the VIN #) but no one knows when it will be shipped!!!!!
About ready to cancel order and buy another brand. I see them coming off the line and being stored. What is the hold up GM ????????????
According to your request, try about 10 years for delivery.
4 banger is a hard sell. make the vehicle bigger and the engine smaller, now that’s thinking outside the box. force the buyer out of what engine they want, then you call them ex buyer. we have that 4 cyl in our Buick, it sucks
you don’t have that 4 cylinder in your buick because the 2.5 turbo is a brand new motor being introduced on this platform, your current buick probably has the 2.0 turbo that has been out for a while. The new 2.5 has more hp and torque than the 3.6 while also getting the same gas mileage
Give people what they want not what you think they should want. My guess is people in the SUV segment want a 6 cyl no matter what the specs are. You can force it on the market at your own peril.
