The GM Authority Take

GMC Acadia sales made a solid showing with a 71 percent jump this quarter as a direct result of better availability at the dealer level, enabling quick turns.

Though it’s far from being in the top five in terms of sales volume, the Acadia continues to perform well in this highly-competitive segment of 21 entries. Meanwhile, the current model is reaching the end of its lifecycle and the overhauled next generation is right around the corner (see details below).

About GMC Acadia

The 2023 GMC Acadia arrives with minimal changes over the previous year’s model, the 2022 GMC Acadia.

The 2019 GMC Acadia was identified by Kelley Blue Book as one of the best certified pre-owned three-row crossovers available for less than $30,000. What’s more, Consumer Reports recently gave the 2023 GMC Acadia a “recommended” rating.

A next-generation GMC Acadia is on the way for the 2024 model year, with GM confirming what we had reported all along – that the new Acadia will be bigger than the current model. The upcoming, third-generation Acadia will grow in size to full-size dimensions, as compared to midsize dimensions of the current second-gen model. As a reminder, the first-gen Acadia – which originally launched in 2007 – was offered as a full-size three-row model, while the second-gen model downsizing an entire size segment, both inside and out.

Last fall during a GM Investor Day event, GM President Mark Reuss addressed future product plans for the Acadia, stating, “Alongside the Traverse, we’ll move the GMC Acadia to a little bit different size standpoint. This comes in a little bigger than the old Acadia, so it’s a big transformation for GMC and its part of the market.”

2024 GMC Acadia prototype

We spied several 2024 GMC Acadia prototypes undergoing testing, including one last July and another testing in February, giving us a good look at its exterior proportions. The upcoming model has a more upright stance reminiscent of the GMC Yukon full-size SUV. Additionally, we also got a glimpse of the upcoming 2024 GMC Acadia’s interior, showing parts of a new center stack and infotainment screen configuration. Additionally, the 2024 Acadia will include the option to equip it with the vaunted GM Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assist system.

Production of the all-new, next-gen, 2024 GMC Acadia is scheduled to begin in January 2024.

Competing in such a crowded segment means keeping models fresh while meeting and exceeding consumer demands for certain features and packaging. A bigger, better, more modern GMC Acadia may be just the ticket – and quite possibly the last ICE-powered version of the nameplate.

  1. GMC/Buick dealers have the potential to be significant players in the auto market especially with Hummer sub brand.
Even without Buick fully worked out these dealerships outsell Mazda, Subaru, Mitsubishi, VW, and could easily double volume with right line ups.
Arcadia is a solid vehicle and cheap to build on C1 platform.
This article does show how disappointing Blazer sales are. I expected better given the hype.

  2. And it’s 14th in the segment with 2% market share. Long way to the top, but a very crowded segment of the market.

  3. Such an over crowded segment will have many slower sellers that don’t quite move the needle. The prices of these things is getting over the top!

  4. GM keep the amenities simple with slightly larger seating(think 2008-2009 versions) and price below $35k for AWD version and you’ll sell a lot of them. All the talk of how expensive EVs are, have you seen price of new ICEs $75k for a Chevy or GMC pickup. Tough time now high prices high interest, to curb payment shock local dealer now offer 10 year car note.
