2024 GMC Acadia Production Start Pushed Back To This Date

Back in December 2022, GM Authority reported that production of the 2024 GMC Acadia was scheduled to commence in January 2024. Now, it appears as though the next-generation of Big Red’s three-row crossover is set to kick off production a little later than that.

Sources close to the matter tell GM Authority that the start of regular production (SORP) of the 2024 Acadia has been pushed back two months to March 4th, 2024.

Although the reasoning behind this deferral isn’t clear, it’s worth mentioning that Acadia production is moving from the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee to the GM Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan – where the Chevy Traverse and Buick Enclave are built – for the 2024 model year.

As a reminder, the 2024 GMC Acadia represents an all-new generation for the crossover, and introduces the expected changes to the exterior, interior, and powertrain. In regard to physical stature, the 2024 Acadia boasts an 8.4-inch stretch in wheelbase, a 10.6-inch increase in overall length, and another 3.2 inches of extra height, making it longer, wider and taller than the current 2023 Acadia. Of course, this increased size translates to a larger interior with more cabin space.

Inside, a 15-inch infotainment screen pairs with a standard 11-inch diagonal driver information center to highlight the overhauled cabin. Additional technological and safety goodies include Google built-in, nine available camera views, Forward Collision Alert, Following Distance Indicator, and Rear Park Assist, among others. The GM Super Cruise autonomous driver assistance system is also offered.

Under the hood, GM Authority was the first to report that the 2024 Acadia features the turbocharged 2.5L I4 LK0 gasoline engine, rated at 328 horsepower and 326 pound-feet of torque, while the GM eight-speed automatic transmission is standard across the range.

In regard to structure, the third-generation Acadia rides on the long-wheelbase variant of the GM C1 platform, and now incorporates the GM Global B electrical architecture.

  1. Any word on pricing…?

  2. Dang it. Waiting to get an AT4. I like the size of the outgoing model. I just wish the interior wasn’t so dated. The 2024 looks pretty good inside and out.

  3. Taking too long should be out now not another 3-4 months

  4. Might as call this and the traverse a 2025 at this point. Blame it on the strike all they want, but everybody seems to be asleep behind the supercruise wheel at GM with these launches.

  5. That is a sharp looking vehicle! Might have to trade in the 21 Redline Traverse for this. I’m hoping the new 4 cylinder is a worthy successor to the VERY reliable, excellent fuel economy 3.6L we currently have.

    1. Agreed. I really like the 3.6 V6 and hope this new engine holds up over time. I hear it is built like a diesel engine so that is good news.

  6. I was going to order a 2024 Acadia Denali. However, I don’t want a new vehicle built at a plant by extremely unhappy workers (the majority of the Lansing Delta Township plant voted down the new contract). I’m sure this is a VERY large part causing the delay in production. Not to mention they are going back to the larger format, and moving production from Spring Hill, TN. The new longer length was the only reason I was interested in the first place. Although, I wasn’t crazy about going back to a column shifter.
I’ve been driving Yukon XLs for 10 years. I wanted to down-size to the Acadia. Now, I’m going to order a regular size Yukon Denali instead. The majority of the Arlington plant (who builds Yukon/Suburban/Tahoe/Escalade) voted for the new contract. Therefore, I’m hopeful that I’ll see it before July.

  7. So sad. Even thought of preordering. Wonder if this extends to the sister Chevy Traverse. If the Traverse is still on schedule, than at least I can see if the front seats will be nice which is my main concern on an expected price of $60k for the Denali

    1. The 2024 traverse, according to dealer near me should start arriving at the dealerships in February. Hess already put in first order. Most of it is made up of the z71

  8. When GM downsized the current one it changed the driving dynamics of the vehicle, for the better. I have a 2021 AT4 as a work vehicle for NAPA and it is a way better driver than my wife’s 2021 Traverse. Feels more connected to the driver and a lot less body roll in the corners. With that being said, the new Traverse in the Z71 package looks really good.

  9. I am waiting anxiously for the 2024 Acadia’s arrival, intending to downsize trading my 2020 Yukon Denali. I have driven GMC SUV’s, Blazers, Tahoe’s, Yukon’s and Acadia’s since the 1980’s. In an effort to downsize in 2006 i purchased a GMC Envoy…had the vehicle one year…disaster. Introduced to the first-generation Acadia, I purchased a 2007, then a 2010, 2012 and 2015. Fabulous vehicles. 2017 GMC lost my interest in the Acadia with their tragic re-design/downsize of the vehicle…. I returned to the full-size Yukon’s in 2017 and 2020. I am hopeful that the 2024 will renew confidence and satisfaction with the Acadia. My only concerns with the anticipated 2024 Acadia is a “first model year vehicle production” and the manufacturing transition to the new design.

  10. They are probably delaying to clean out the dealerships lots that still have 2023 models. And hoping federal reserve starts cutting rates

  11. I see the 2024 has an 8 speed transmission. If that is the same transmission as the 8 speed that was in our 2016 Cadillac CTS be very cautious.. GM had and still is having very (underline VERY) )serious problems with their 8 speed transmission. Do some research.

  12. My current lease is up April 23rd and I am very interested in the 2024 Acadia for my next vehicle. I am a retired GM Salary employee and have bought GM vehicles exclusively for the past 40 years. I want to know when I will be able to build the new Acadia on line. GM Financial said I can make one extra payment and extend my lease until May 23, but if I can’t give them an order number at that time I have to order a different model or brand. I currently have a 2021 Enclave and the 2024 Enclave is the same vehicle with basically no changes. Not interested. I would greatly appreciate any info on the availability of the Acadia. Thanks in advance.

  14. On my way to look at a 2023 Acadia AT4. As much as I like the looks of the new one, I imagine they are having quality issues as it keeps getting delayed. Also, this will be the last V6 I probably will ever own 😔

  15. Just bought an Acadia AT4 yesterday. Tired of waiting and don’t want to pay the 7k+ it will increase in price. Also, I really like the V6.

  16. March 17th and no 2024 Acadias yet. I’m betting it will be another 2 months before it hits dealer’s lots.

  17. Having worked production in Oshawa for 32 years I learned that the beginning of SORP means that vehicles will be trickling through work stations. There will be many changes to stations once ramped up production starts. Quality and ergonomic issues always show themselves. Count on June-July before any significant number of them start arriving. I would rather have an early build SORP Acadia because you know they’ve been scrutinized closely before leaving the plant. Unfortunately that close scrutiny only lasts so long before the higher ups start demanding numbers!! Trust me, I lived it.

    1. I am trying to find out how long it take for the GM Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan to build one from start to finish; any thoughts?
I was the first in line at my dealership in Reno for the Denali ultimate, they have told me three different build dates
the most recent was on 3/10 that build would start on 3/18, but I am unable to confirm anything.

  18. Nice looking truck. But the large screen, on the dashboard, for all the controls. I’m not a fan. I drove a 2023 Canyon. The one large screen for all the controls is a little dangerous and cumbersome to deal with. You have to take your eyes off the road to make adjustments/find to anything. I couldn’t understand the reason for the poor design.
Google even has a disclaimer , that comes on the dashboard screen because of the liability.
Driver safety was not thought off in the decision.

  19. Thanks! I preordered my AWD Denali today. Hope it gets a good look over. Taking a BIG chance on this (somewhere north of $60k). It really has everything I would want except ventilated seats in the second row, no sunshade in the second row (neither a big deal to me) and the second row captain chair arm rest looks a thin.

As I’ve mentioned prior; I just hope the fronts seats are as yummy as they are beautiful. They just don’t make the barcolounger chairs anymore

I don’t need a third row, but having sat in every car at 3 autoshows, I just want something more spacious than (hard to believe but true) the Honda CRV I currently drive. Everything else outside of a full size truck type seems cramped.

It might be 2 months before it comes
