GMC Terrain Sales Up 22 Percent To Nearly 22K Deliveries During Q1 2024

GMC Terrain sales increased in the United States, Canada, and Mexico during the first quarter of 2024.

In the United States, GMC Terrain deliveries totaled 21,864 units in Q1 2024, an increase of about 22 percent compared to 17,928 units sold in Q1 2023.

In Canada, GMC Terrain deliveries totaled 4,701 units in Q1 2024, an increase of about 59 percent compared to 2,950 units sold in Q1 2023.

GMC Terrain Sales - Q1 2024 - Mexico

In Mexico, GMC Terrain deliveries totaled 624 units in Q1 2024, an increase of about 10 percent compared to 569 units sold in Q1 2023.

Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)

GMC Terrain sales during the first quarter of 2024 placed the Professional Grade brand’s compact crossover in 11th place among 15 entries in the mainstream compact crossover segment when ranked by sales volume, up a spot from the previous quarter. The Toyota RAV4 kept the top spot by a wide margin over the Honda CR-V again. RAV4 sales jumped 47 percent for a very healthy 124,822 deliveries, besting Honda by nearly 30K deliveries. The CR-V stayed in second place with a 41 percent bump to 95,038 units. The Nissan Rogue maintained third with a 19 percent swell to 90,804 units. The Chevy Equinox (see running Chevy Equinox sales), the Terrain’s corporate cousin and D2 platform mate, kept fourth place with a two percent uptick to 54,185 units. The Forester moved into fifth with a 60 percent spurt to 48,546 units. The GMC Terrain (see running GMC Terrain sales) moved up a spot to 11th place with a 22 percent increase to 21,864 units. The discontinued Dodge Journey has fallen off the list.

The Terrain maintained a three percent market share in its segment. The RAV4 led with a 19 percent segment share, up three percentage points year-over-year. The CR-V and Rogue both earned a 14 percent share, with the CR-V up two percentage points and the Rogue maintaining its segment share. The Equinox posted an eight percent share, down two percentage points, and the Forester held a seven percent share, up one percentage point.

GM’s two entries, the Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain, combined for 76,049 deliveries, an 11 percent segment share, keeping The General in fourth place.

Mitsubishi’s two models, the Eclipse Cross and Outlander, had combined sales of 17,309 units for a three percent segment share.

Overall, the compact crossover segment grew 22 percent to 660,690 units during Q1 2024, meaning GMC Terrain sales matched the segment average.

The GM Authority Take

Sales of the GMC Terrain started the year rebounding from the previous quarter and matched the segment average year over year.

We expect future sales to get a boost from the upcoming all-new Terrain. But GM’s challenge remains, as it does for everything it builds, producing enough units of GMC’s entry-level crossover to meet demand.
