Back in October 2023, GM Authority reported that production of the next-generation 2025 GMC Terrain was scheduled to commence in mid-2024. Now, this tentative start of regular production (SORP) date has been pushed back a few months.
GM Authority has learned that the production start of the third-generation GMC Terrain has been rescheduled to kick off on October 14th, 2024 at the GM San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico. Notably, the reasoning behind this delay was not revealed.
As a reminder, solid details concerning the 2025 GMC Terrain have been few and far between. In fact, our first on-the-road sighting of the all-new crossover was back in August 2023, while our first live peek at the interior was just this month. Of course, this lack of information doesn’t mean that everything regarding the upcoming Terrain is unknown.
For starters, the exterior is expected to adopt a more truck-like appearance with rugged styling themes found throughout, along with a new front fascia that features C-shaped headlamps. Similar lighting elements will likely be found out back as well.
Moving to the interior, GM Authority exclusively reported that the cabin will be highlighted by a vertically oriented, portrait-style infotainment center similar to the setup found in the all-new 2024 GMC Acadia. Meanwhile, the driver will be greeted by an 11-inch Driver Information Center, the same unit found in the 2025 Chevy Equinox.
Under the hood, the 2025 Terrain is expected to be powered by the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine, which is rated at 175 horsepower in the 2025 Equinox. The GM eight-speed automatic transmission will serve as the sole transmission offering.
In regard to structure, the next-gen Terrain will ride on an updated variant of the GM D2 platform that underpins the current 2024 Terrain.

Hopefully, the new Equinox production start will also be pushed back. At this time, Americans need a value entry in the compact CUV class and the current Nox is it. The new one will be priced higher, with much smaller discounts (if any). Only problem with the ’24 Nox is that dealers can’t keep them in stock and discounts are shrinking.
Why have they stopped to 2.0? I purposely bought a used 2020 with towing package to get the 2.0. GMC needs to bring it back in the Terrain as the Profesional grade truck brand. I got the 2.0 in my 23 Buick Envision Avenir, and it takes regular gas.
I’m hoping, per the exact wording, it’s not a complete statement. 25 Terrain equipped with the 1.5L, but Denali option for the 2.0L, or bigger?? Let’s hope.
If you have the 2.0 turbo AWD then it ABSOLUTELY requires premium gas. Better research it. Wife’s got a 2022 Avenir and it does.
The 23 Envision AWD Avenir is absolutely regular. Glad I waited.
Ya if you want reduced fuel economy, acceleration and an audible knocking noise. Read the reports on using regular in a 2.0
Did this article mean to say production delayed to Oct 2024? Quote below…going from mid-2024 to late 2025 is a huge delay and would likely result in no model year 2025 Terrain….
“GM Authority has learned that the production start of the third-generation GMC Terrain has been rescheduled to kick off on October 14th, 2025”
It has to be a typo…otherwise, it’s one heck of a delay!
I really like my 2023 Terrain Denali. The overall package is good. It is comfortable, roomy and drives well. Quality has been very good. I like everything about it but the engine. Just not enough power with no return in fuel economy. It is just “adequate”. I am hoping that a version of the 2.0 will return as an option. I would gladly pay for the difference in an otherwise excellent vehicle.
We bought a 2024 Terrain in Nov of 2023. After only 900 km the transmission valve assembly malfunctioned. The Terrain has been at the GM shop in Thunder Bay since Dec 11/23- 3 months now, waiting for the part. NOT HAPPY WITH GM!
A new co-worker’s 2024 Trax had a transmission failure at just over 100 miles off the dealer’s lot……
He was rather upset, and the salesman was deeply embarrassed.
They let him have a new Trailblazer for the same price.
Not good, gm….
We’ve had the same problem with our 2024 Terrain, after only 900 km. Been 3 months waiting for GM to decide what to do….as we pay for a vehicle that we don’t have
Lots of 2024 Terrains still sitting around with a large incentive. Makes no sense to bring out the 2025’s with all the 2024’s still around.

I’d like to know if the newer Terrains still have a problem with using too much oil?
I have a 2012 terrain with 61000 miles on it has a V6, 268 H. Power
It runs on 87 octane. They should have dropped that option. Was great pulling the boat. Never had a major problem with it
