2025 GMC Terrain Interior: Our Exclusive Details

The 2025 GMC Terrain is set to debut this year, ushering in an all-new third generation for the compact crossover SUV. As expected, the next-gen Terrain will offer up a slew of changes and updates over the current second-gen model, including new styling, both inside and out. Now, GM Authority has learned exclusive details concerning the 2025 GMC Terrain interior.

The 2024 GMC Acadia interior will provide design inspiration for the 2025 GMC Terrain interior.

According to sources familiar with the product, the all-new 2025 GMC Terrain interior will include a cockpit design similar to that of the all-new 2024 GMC Acadia. The main centerpiece will be a vertically oriented, portrait-style infotainment screen, complete with an integrated volume knob at the bottom, along with a row of switches and hard buttons to control the car’s HVAC system.

From there, an inductive phone charging pad will be located below the screen. And located below the inductive phone charger will be a floating center console, with additional storage located below (or “within”) the center console. The entire setup will, again be very similar to the one found in the new GMC Acadia

As for the vehicle controls, the vehicle shifter will be a EPS selector located on the column, again mirroring the new Acadia. The steering wheel will also be similar to that of the 2024 GMC Acadia. Finally, the 2025 GMC Terrain will feature an 11-inch Driver Information Center, identical to the unit used in the 2024 GMC Acadia and 2025 Chevy Equinox.

During the GM Q3 2023 earnings call, the automaker confirmed that the 2025 GMC Terrain will debut in the middle of the 2024 calendar year.

Beyond a new interior, the new Terrrain will also feature a completely reworked exterior with a more expressive design,. Motivation will be derived from GM’s turbocharged 1.5L LSD engine and eight-speed automatic transmission. An updated variant of the GM D2 platform will provide the underpinnings.

  1. Applause… Not everyone wants a wall of screens like the Chevy products are moving toward. I’ll stick with Gmc if they keep their designs going like this.

  2. Atrocious. Hideous as well.

    1. So not for you then? How’s that 1993 Cavalier holding up?

  3. So the Terrain will be getting a new engine? Tell us more about this one!!!

      1. Thanks for clarifying Alex. I see now that the article has been updated and references the 1.5. Makes sense that’s the engine they’d use.

  4. GMCs go down the same assembly line as Chevys. About the only differences are in the grills and a few other small features.

    1. It’s been more than that here lately. They have unique body panels and even wheelbase.

Yes every GM Crossover fits on the same platform as the malibue and just have some modifications to fit their perspective applications. You can produce slightly different CUV’s on the same line, one right after the other these days, but the new terrain will be minutly larger than the equinox and tow slightly more but will be able to be made on the same line.

  5. Absolutely love it on the Acadia. Need to see the Terrain interior to see if it works with the smaller dimensions, but it looks like a real winner.

  6. IMHO, GMC lost a lot of TERRAIN sales because of the stupid transmission buttons on the dash. I switched to the Equinox because of this feature. I will now look at a TERRAIN.
On the other hand, I may dump any idea of a vehicle made in MEXICO. They are not our friends.

    1. In case you haven’t noticed, the US doesn’t have any friends… only interests and vassals, and both are getting fewer and fewer thanks to… well… you know.

    2. Good thing that is just an opinion because it is 100% false. The Terrain in the first gen averaged 91k sales per year over its run. The second gen (excluding the covid year when production was closed and there were part supply issues, averaged the same 91k sales per year. The buttons literally take a few tries to get used to as an owner and it is awesome having the added space, especially a smaller vehicle. No reason anything midsize or under should have a big console shifter taking up space, that is one of the biggest complaints in the Colorado/Canyon twins. Our Yukon Denali has the buttons, it is second nature. You push the buttons 3 times per drive (P to R, R to D and D to P) yet you store stuff constantly, why waste that space? The column stalk is by far the best. Either way, it had zero impact on sales and was probably lauded by those seeing all the extra storage.

As far as Mexico, they are our friends. I am guessing you are ok with them being built in Canada though? I don’t see anyone bash Canada but Mexico is the devil even though they are both part of the North American trade agreement with the US. I will take a Mexico built vehicle any day to keep costs down versus an American built foreign vehicle…

    3. Not true in the Terrain or Acadia. The buttons are a non factore.

Many cars no longer have a shifter anymore. Just a knob or button.

      1. C8.R button shifter is nothing new my father is 76 years old he remembers I think it Ford or Chrysler had the push button shifter… anyway my 1997 Chevy lumina had a stalk on the column shifter I loved that car with 60/40 from seat tons of room and comfortable to drive, besides cars for years had column shifters which freed up a lot of space, now my wife’s car has Buicks newer shifter it looks like a Chevy bolt shifter it’s on a console but it takes up much less space and there is a compartment underneath and the traditional giant storage bin. My point is that big console shifters where popular in the 80s but you don’t need all that wasted space anymore.

      2. Apparently the low mounted buttons were enough of a complaint for Gm to redesign it back to the column on the right hand side which not only puts the shifter back in a traditional spot and also frees up the console.

    4. As for the push button shifter, I had this on my 2020 Acadia Denali thre-year lease and I have it on my 2023 Terrain Denali, but it’s hardly worth fretting over. Thought it’s not my favorite, it just takes a couple days to get used to it. It works fine and I don’t even think about it anymore. Certainly not a show stopper.

  7. So are we still sure that it’s the 9 speed still and not the 8 speed/CVT?

  8. Maybe like Buick GMC is finally getting the current 2.0t the price difference would be great a reason to look at the Terrain I just hope it’s not dopey looking like the current soft styled Terrain.

    1. I’d love to see a return of the 2.0 turbo. The Terrain would certainly benefit from it and it could further differentiate the Terrain from the Equinox. As for “soft styling”, you must be thinking of the Equinox. I think the current Terrain styling is pretty bold and looks good. I don’t see anything soft about it.

  9. Anxiously awaiting the new model as a current owner of a 2015 V6 AWD Terrain. Surely, I’ll be disappointed by the 4cyl turbo engine, but really curious how it will look.

  10. We’ll probably see the New Terrain and perhaps the new Enclave at the NYIAS.

  11. I really like my terrain I have. 2022 elevation with all the upgrades, but I still dislike the 1.5 lte turbocharged engine, it’s just too small. Bring back a 2.0 ltr turbo, I know it’s sacrificed to make way for all the trucks but your going to make electric vehicles anyway so that will reduce your carbon footprint. I want more gas not less.

  12. The real key to all of this is to keep buttons as well as the screen. Not everyone want the touch screen. The buttons are key to keeping all happy.

I wish GM would use the heater controls like on the Blazer on more cars. Turing the ring on the vent to adjust the temp on either side of the car was pure genius.

  13. Fantastic redesig. When can I buy one?

  14. Will we see the 2.0 turbo? I hope so. 1.5 just not enough.
