The GM Authority Take

This drastic drop in Chevrolet Colombia sales in June further deepens the Bow Tie brand’s negative performance in the South American country, where the systematic loss of volume has quickly moved it from being the country’s second-best selling auto brand to fourth. In fact, the 1,619 Chevys sold during the month of June represent one of the lowest monthly sales figures, as well as the eighth consecutive drop for Chevrolet in the country.

Almost all models sold by Chevrolet in Colombia saw substantial double- and triple-digit drops during the month, led by significant declines in Chevy Onix and Chevy Tracker, the brand’s most popular nameplates in the domestic Colombian market. The Onix is now on a long-standing streak of contraction and has not yet begun to improve its performance, despite the fact that the Joy entry level variant is now in production at the GM Colmotores plant. Even Chevy’s commercial truck line wasn’t able to escape being in the red during June.

By contrast, the Chevy Camaro – which traditionally sees lower sales volumes – was the only model that managed to be in the green during June. Indeed, the muscle car managed to register a momentum similar to what it experienced in the beginning of the year. June’s performance enabled it to remain in the green for the first half of 2023. Finally, it’s worth noting that GM delivered the first 51 units of the all-new Chevy Montana in the Colombian market.
