The GM Authority Take

GM Mexico sales continued in the green during May, posting a notable double-digit increase just as the Mexican market experienced an improvement in demand that favored the U.S.-based automaker. This result represents the fourth consecutive monthly increase for GM in the Latin country, led by Chevrolet and GMC.

Chevy S10 Max

In May, GM Mexico’s growth was fueled by a dozen models. Particularly noteworthy are the significant increases posted by the Chevy S10 Max, Captiva, Tornado Van and Groove – all of them rational models with affordable price tags imported from China. Also notable in last month’s performance was a high double-digit increase posted by the GMC Sierra along with an overall improvement in the company’s portfolio of full-size SUVs.

Chevy Captiva

Meanwhile, several high-volume models suffered notable declines in May, including the Chevy Aveo, Onix, Tracker and Silverado. Despite the double-digit drop, the Aveo remained the automaker’s best-selling nameplate in Mexico, right in the middle of the transition from the outgoing sedan to the newly launched sedan variant of the all-new Aveo that begins commercialization in June. The arrival of the new generation model is expected to boost the performance of the model in the coming months.

It’s also worth noting that the all-new 2024 Chevy Trax registered its first 44 units in Mexico. Incidentally, this was before its official arrival at dealerships.
