Chevrolet Chile Sales Down 54 Percent In April 2023

Chevrolet Chile sales decreased 54.5 percent to 1,469 units in April 2023. The figures place Chevrolet as the country’s third best-selling automobile brand during the month, behind Toyota and Kia.

Chilean auto sales figures are limited since reporting only shows the best-selling models in each segment. As such, no sales data is available for vehicles that sell in lower volumes. Nevertheless, individual Chevy model sales performance (for models for which sales data is available) was as follows:

In addition to the models specified, Chevrolet also markets the following vehicles in Chile:

During the first four months of the 2023 calendar year, Chevrolet Chile sales decreased 43 percent to 7,372 units.

The GM Authority Take

The drastic drop in Chevrolet Chile sales in April further deepen the brand’s negative performance in the South American country, where Chevrolet is suffering from an aging lineup of its most popular models along with low inventory levels. In fact, the 1,469 deliveries last month represent the brand’s worst monthly sales figure so far this year, as well as the seventh consecutive drop in the Chilean market.

In April, the vast majority of Chevrolet models in Chile suffered notable double-digit declines, including the previously best-selling Chevy Sail that has been seeing significant reductions in market share during recent months. In addition, the Chevy Groove was also in the red, putting an end to the slight increases it experienced during the previous months. Still, the small crossover maintains a wide lead as the brand’s best-selling model in the country.

For its part, the Chevy Tracker was the only nameplate that was in the green in April, though the results represented the worst monthly performance of the first four months of the year. A similar situation was also true for the Chevy Silverado: despite remaining the most popular model in its segment in Chile, the full-size pickup truck saw a significant reduction in volume in April to 172 units. By comparison, the Silverado averaged 235 registrations per month during the first three moths of the 2023 calendar year.
