Chevrolet Chile Sales Down 49 Percent In May 2023

Chevrolet Chile sales fell 49 percent to 1,652 units in May 2023. The figures place Chevrolet as the country’s third best-selling automobile brand during the month, behind Toyota and Kia.

Chilean auto sales figures are limited since reporting only shows the best-selling models in each segment. As such, no sales data is available for vehicles that sell in lower volumes. Nevertheless, individual Chevy model sales performance (for models for which sales data is available) was as follows:

In addition to the models specified, Chevrolet also markets the following vehicles in Chile:

During the first five months of the 2023 calendar year, Chevrolet Chile sales decreased 44 percent to 9,024 units.

The GM Authority Take

Chevrolet Chile sales suffered another significant contraction in May, when the Bow Tie brand registered its second worst monthly performance so far this year in the Chilean market after recording 1,469 deliveries in April. As such, last month’s results deepen the brand’s negative performance in the local market, representing its eighth consecutive monthly contraction in Chile due to low inventory of its most popular models.

Several Chevy nameplates that performed well during the same month of the previous calendar year saw substantial drops in sales volume in May. Between the Chevy Tracker and Onix alone, the brand lost 1,267 units year-over-year. Additionally, significant double-digit drops were recorded by the Chevy Colorado and N-Series trucks.

Curiously, sales of the Chevy Groove and Sail increased in May, as both models have been in the red for months in Chile. In fact, the nameplates were the only Chevy models that were in the green in May. The performance enables the Groove to consolidate its position as Chevy’s best selling model. It’s also worth noting that the Chevy Silverado finished as the brand’s second most popular nameplate in the South American country with a remarkable (for the local market) 209 deliveries.
