The GM Authority Take
GM Mexico sales saw a slight uptick during April, a month that saw a slowdown in the demand for new vehicles in the Latin country compared to prior months. However, the record still enabled the automaker’s positive performance, representing the third consecutive sales increase for GM in the Mexican market.
Despite the general decline of all cars and most of crossovers offered by the automaker, the slight increase of GM Mexico in April was supported by healthy sales of pickups and commercial vehicles. Among them is the outstanding performance of the Chevy S10 Max, enabling the model to consolidate its position as the second most popular midsize pickup in Mexico. The solid performance of the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra full-size trucks is also worth highlighting, as is the fact that the Chevy Tracker experienced the highest growth rate and was the only Chevrolet crossover to finish the month in the green.
By contrast, the best-selling Chevy Aveo continued to be in the red due to sub-par inventory of the current model. The subcompact car is expected to make a sales comeback in the coming months as the rollout of the redesigned model is completed, in both hatchback and sedan body styles. Other models that typically contribute to the bottom line, such as the Chevy Captiva, Onix and Groove, also saw a drop in sales during the month.
