GM China Sales Up Nine Percent In Second Quarter 2023

GM China sales increased nine percent to 526,200 units during the fourth quarter 2023. Sales increased at four GM brands in the country, including Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and Wuling.

SAIC-GM Sales – Q2 2023

Second quarter 2023 sales at SAIC-GM – GM’s primary joint venture in China responsible for Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac operations – increased 16.5 percent to 239,700 units:

Buick sales increased 6.2 percent to 136,200 units

  • The all-new GL8 Century MPV sold over 4,400 units, taking cumulative GL8 sales to over 10,000 units
  • The all-new Buick Electra E5 secured a strong foothold in the mainstream electric crossover segment, with about 4,600 units sold since Q2 launch as Buick’s first Ultium model
  • All-new Electra E4 crossover followed the Electra E5, introducing enhanced styling and versatility to build the Buick’s Ultium momentum

Chevrolet sales increased 20.0 percent to 48,000 units

  • The Chevy Monza remained the brand’s best-selling nameplate, with sales up 56 percent to over 33,000 units
  • The Chevy Menlo EV sustained strong market demand
  • Chevy Tracker RS sales nearly tripled

Cadillac sales increased 50.5 percent to 55,500 units

  • The Cadillac CT5 sets record sales of nearly 26,000 units, up a whopping 120 percent
    • The model becomes the brand’s top-selling model
  • Cadillac Lyriq is seeing increased levels of popularity and continued improvement of the user experience as China’s first Ultium-powered vehicle
  • Product offensive comprising the all-new GT4 crossover, all-new CT6 and upgraded XT4 is driving Cadillac’s sales momentum

SAIC-GM-Wuling Sales – Q2 2023

Second-quarter 2023 sales at SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) – GM’s other Chinese joint venture responsible for Wuling and Baojun brands – increased 2.7 percent to 286,400 units:

  • For the second consecutive quarter, GM did not break out sales of the Baojun brand
  • CSGMW combined EV sales topped 100,000 units, with strengthened leadership in small EV segments
  • All-new Wuling Bingo built upon the phenomenal success of the Wuling Hong Guang MINI EV, delivering over 41,000 units
  • The all-new Baojun Yep EV recorded over 2,000 sales during its first month of availability

During the first six months of the 2023 calendar year, GM China sales decreased 10 percent to 988,300 units.

  1. GM is in an amazingly strong position for the future, in both of the worlds largest economies. As she rises to a level amongst the greatest of GM’s leaders ever, time to acknowledge……..nice job Mary Barra!!!!

  2. Tap the brakes a bit, one solid quarter for GM is nice, but they are still down double digits from low 2022 volume. And the Bolshevik UAW leader trying to show out like its 1970 is already talking about a strike before even meeting with GM. There are a lot of headwinds for GM, let’s see how GM leadership manages them before crowning Mary. Keep in mind, under current leadership, GM has fallen from #1 globally in 2016 with over 10M sales to #5 with 5.9M in 2022 and no EU presence.

  4. Despite country facing economic headwinds, GM is doing fairly good with Wuling & Cadillac doing lot of heavylifting.
