The GM Authority Take
Chevy Express sales posted the only gain in the segment during Q3 2024 to take third. The gain is likely due to better availability of the Express during the quarter.
Additionally, combining sales of the Express and the GMC Savana puts GM in second place, meaning ahead of Ram. However, crosstown rival Ford still outsold The General when combining sales of the Transit with those of the E-Series.
As GM Authority has noted in the past, the Express/Savana is an old vehicle that dates back to the 1990s. The duo remains the oldest models in their segment by a wide margin and are even the oldest GM vehicles currently in production. Meanwhile, competitors field substantially more modern and attractive products. Even so, GM has sold more than three million Chevy Express and GMC Savana units to date.
GM previously considered to redesign the Chevy Express for the 2027 model year, keeping the ICE powertrain. However, the automaker seems to have canceled any next-generation vans, instead moving the all-electric BrightDrop vans under the Chevy brand while planning to continue offering the Express in its current form.
About Chevrolet Express
The 2025 Chevy Express drops the audio system upgrade – the AM/FM stereo with MP3 player and USB port – along with several other features and options. In practical terms, this means that the 2025 Express will no longer have a CD player or USB port, while Bluetooth connectivity is available through a dealer-installed kit. It also offers a new rearview camera mirror.
Production of the 2025 Chevy Express kicked off in October.

I guess it’s time for a remake if GM wants to be a player in this segment eh?
“if GM wants to be a player in this segment eh?”
Key words here. A best-in-industry remake won’t matter if GM’s ordering and delivery operations remain a basket case. The Transit doesn’t sell because anyone likes them, they sell because Ford delivers them and doesn’t waste their customers’ time.
Exactly those Fords are ugly azz vans. I’ve have a Express van on order since Dec 9th 2021.
They may be ugly but they outsell gm’s by a 2.5-1 margin
That’s only because you cant hardly get a GM van unless you run a fleet.
GM wasted a boat load of cash on the Brightdrop van. Investment in a new Express would have paid off handsomely.
In the EMS world If you want a Chevy you have to cut the top off and put a fiberglass top on it so you can stand up in the back or take a cutaway and build a box and mount on it and this add’s cost. Now Ford and Ram have models that you can stand up in. You can build an ambulance cheaper with the Ford Transit or Ram Pro master then a Chevy van or cutaway. I have regular van and hate having to bend over to get in and out of the back or get on my knees to get items out of the van. Just look at the big delivery service, Amazon, DHL and Fedex just to name a few and they use vans that you can stand up in. Now I don’t have a PHD but I can see Chevy is getting it’s butt kicked and I would like to hear their reason for not building a hightop van. I am sure it’s got to do with money and they mite feel the profit margin is not enough. Now the more units you sale and have on the road you can make it up on the back end with parts and service work. I service emergency vehicles and retired from public safety after 44 years, A high percentage of the vehicle I service are Ford and Pro masters and custom built fire trucks.
