Chevrolet Chile Sales Tank 54 Percent In June 2023

Chevrolet Chile sales fell 54 percent to 1,682 units in June 2023. The figures place Chevrolet as the country’s third best-selling automobile brand during the month, behind Toyota and Hyundai.

Chilean auto sales figures are limited since reporting only shows the best-selling models in each segment. As such, no sales data is available for vehicles that sell in lower volumes. Nevertheless, individual Chevy model sales performance (for models for which sales data is available) was as follows:

In addition to the models specified, Chevrolet also markets the following vehicles in Chile:

During the first six months of the 2023 calendar year, Chevrolet Chile sales decreased 46 percent to 10,706 units.

The GM Authority Take

The massive contraction in Chevrolet Chile sales in June deepens the brand’s negative behavior in the South American country, which has the most competitive and fastest growing automotive market in the region. This new decrease and the 1,682 deliveries recorded last month represent one of Chevrolet’s worst monthly results in the Chilean market, where it has already accumulated nine consecutive months of sales drops, therefore losing its position as the nation’s best-selling auto brand.

The poor performance in Chevrolet Chile sales in June was driven by an overall sales decrease in most models, particularly in entry-level models that were previously the brand’s most popular, such as the Chevy Sail, Tracker and Onix. In particular, these three models accounted for the bulk of Chevy’s sales volume decrease, each seeing a drop of 80 percent or more during the month, or a cumulative 2,028 unit decrease year-over-year.

In contrast, the Chevy Groove and the N-Series line of commercial trucks were the only nameplates that managed to be in the green in June. The Groove stands out for posting positive figures both during June as well as during the first half of the year, enabling it to consolidate its position as the brand’s best-selling model. For its part, the Chevy Silverado was once again Bow Tie brand’s second most popular model, with healthy sales volume. In fact, the Silverado was also the best-selling vehicle in its class during the month.
