GM crossover sales grew three percent to 253,174 units in the United States during the first quarter of 2024. These figures include models with internal combustion engines as well as electric vehicles.
GM offers 19 unibody crossovers across all four brands, which include ICE models and EVs. However, one of those models, the Buick Encore, has been discontinued and indirectly replaced by the all-new Buick Envista, while production is officially over for the current generation Chevy Bolt EV and Bolt EUV duo till the next-gen model arrives down the road. Crossovers accounted for 81 percent, or just over four-fifths, of all GM utility sales (see below), even though only about a third posted sales in the green during Q1 2024.

The compact Chevy Equinox again led the way with a two percent uptick in sales to 54,185 units, followed by the all-new subcompact Chevy Trax with a 481 percent leap to 37,588 units, and the compact Chevy Trailblazer with a 13 percent slip to 24,208 units. The Bow Tie brand’s three smallest utilities alone accounted for 46 percent, or almost half, of overall GM crossover sales in the U.S.
The top three, or four, fastest-growing crossovers for Q1 2024 were the Trax, the compact GMC Terrain with a 22 percent bump in sales to 21,864 units, and a tossup between the midsize Chevy Blazer and refreshed subcompact Buick Encore GX, with both posting a nine percent bump in sales for 16,595 and 13,364 deliveries, respectively.
Chevy models accounted for 63 percent, or nearly two-thirds, of overall GM crossover sales, with the Bow Tie brand fielding four of the top five models and the most entries among The General’s brands. Specifically, Chevy makes up eight of the 19 crossovers sold by GM in its home market. Buick accounted for 17 percent of overall sales with five models (though, as mentioned earlier, one has been discontinued), which is all that the premium marque sells in the U.S. GMC followed with 12 percent of sales from just two crossovers. Cadillac accounted for eight percent from its four models.
GM fields four all-electric utilities – just crossovers for now – with Chevy selling the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV duo along with the Chevy Blazer EV, while Cadillac sells the Cadillac Lyriq.
(Sometimes, like this quarter, U.S. sales figures are not broken out for the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV but are combined.)

GM EV utility sales moved 13,440 units during Q1 2024, accounting for five percent of all utility sales.
Buyers sometimes cross-shop body-on-frame SUV equivalents to unibody crossovers, especially ones that are similar in size, like the Chevy Tahoe SUV and Chevy Traverse crossover. Buick is currently the only GM brand that doesn’t offer a body-on-frame model. Combined sales of GM utilities, comprised of crossovers and SUVs, were nearly flat for 313,330 deliveries.
(Sometimes, U.S. sales figures are not broken out for the Yukon and Yukon XL but are combined, like this quarter. The same is true for U.S. sales figures of the Escalade and Escalade ESV, which are also combined this quarter.)

19 different crossovers. Wow, that’s a whole lot of boring.
And a whole lot of profit! Keep it going GM…excellent performance!
The Trax is made in Korea with 0% US content!
The driver is most of the US content. To correct you, US content starts at a whopping 2%.
A sea of egg-shaped misery.
So what an Enclave, Traverse, Tahoe just to make a few that are “assembled” here in the US use almost 90- 100% Korean or Chinese parts. Go buy brake rotors from Napa like I did you know where they are made? China by a company that pushes American pride…face it there is nothing 100% American made anymore.
People must be in a hurry to buy anything before the green hammer mandate drops.
