GM Has Filed To Trademark Escalade IQ And IQL All Over The World

GM is expanding the reach of the Cadillac brand to numerous overseas markets, with the luxury marque’s latest all-electric utility models leading the charge. That includes the all-electric Cadillac Escalade IQ, which, so far, is set to launch in key markets such as the U.S., Canada, China, and the Middle East. However, according to a recent GM Authority analysis, it looks as though The General has plans to offer the new all-electric SUV well beyond these markets, with recent trademark filings indicating a much broader international strategy.

As GM Authority has uncovered, GM has filed to trademark the Escalade IQ in at least 24 countries globally. In fact, based on filings made as of December of 2024, GM is seeking the rights to the nameplate in countries such as France, Germany, Brazil, South Korea, Costa Rica, Egypt, and Japan, among others.

What’s more, the extended-length IQL model, which is slated to offer additional interior space for passengers and cargo compared to the standard-length SUV, has been trademarked in fewer markets, but still shows considerable reach in terms of availability. Of course, a disparity between these two models is to be expected, given the niche appeal of the IQL. Additionally, it should be noted that GM has yet to officially announce the new Escalade IQL.

Check out the table below for a breakdown of the global trademark filings made for the Cadillac Escalade IQ and IQL:

For those readers who may be unaware, the Cadillac Escalade IQ is an all-electric reimagining of Cadillac’s flagship SUV. Utilizing GM’s battery-driven Ultium technology, the IQ features a dual-motor setup capable of producing an estimated 750 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque with Velocity Max mode active. Range per charge is estimated at 460 miles, while DC fast charging, provides up to 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes under optimal conditions.

Under the skin, both the IQ and IQL ride on the GM BT1 platform. Production for the North American market takes place at the GM Factory ZERO plant in Michigan, previously known as Detroit-Hamtramck.

  1. If you ever feel like you have a useless job, remember. There are people that issue trademarks and patents in China.

  2. The IQ is currently at dealers with most of them in transit and GM has not rolled out an advertisement campaign for this model is a head scratcher. There are a few sitting at dealer lots available and no one has picked them up yet. There should be an awareness made for this model. But most of them I’ve seen are Level 1 models at $130K around here.
