Chevy commanded 61 percent of total GM utility sales during the quarter, followed by GMC at 15 percent of sales, Buick at 14 percent, and Cadillac at 10 percent.

GM utility sales were nearly flat to 313,330 units during Q1 2024 in the U.S. Shown here is the Chevy Equinox compact unibody crossover, GM's top-selling utility.

In terms of sales volume, Chevy accounted for The General’s four top-selling utilities among 25 models, while the top five were responsible for over half of all GM utility sales at 51 percent. (Notably, the Buick Encore has been discontinued, indirectly replaced by the all-new Buick Envista.)

The Chevy Equinox compact crossover again led the way with a two percent uptick in sales to 54,185 units, followed by the all-new Chevy Trax subcompact crossover with a 481 percent leap to 37,588 units, and the Chevy Trailblazer compact crossover with a 13 percent slip to 24,208 units. The Bow Tie brand’s three smallest utilities alone accounted for 37 percent, or over a third, of overall GM utility sales in the U.S. The Chevy Tahoe full-size SUV followed these with a 14 percent slide to 23,324 units, and the GMC Terrain compact crossover was next with a 22 percent bump for 21,864 deliveries.

Shown here is the Chevy Tahoe, GM's top-selling full-size SUV.

GM sells six body-on-frame SUVs across its divisions in the U.S., namely the regular-length Chevy Tahoe and extended-length Chevy Suburban, the regular-length GMC Yukon and extended-length Yukon XL, as well as the regular-length Cadillac Escalade and extended-length Escalade ESV. Buick does not sell body-on-frame SUVs but only markets crossovers in North America.

(Sometimes, U.S. sales figures are not broken out for the Yukon and Yukon XL but are combined, like this quarter. The same is true for U.S. sales figures of the Escalade and Escalade ESV, which are also combined this quarter.)
