On the competitive front, the two GM vans were outsold by much newer rivals, including the Ford Transit and Ram ProMaster, along with the older Ford E-Series. As an answer to Ford’s all-electric E-Transit, which was within 384 deliveries of the ICE-powered Savana, The General offers its own all-electric commercial vans, the BrightDrop Zevo 600 and Zevo 400, which also compete against Rivian’s all-electric entries, the EDV/Delivery 700 and EDV/Delivery 500.

Continuing poor sales of the Express and Savana comes as no surprise since both models are old vehicles tracing their roots to the 1990s. The duo is by far the oldest in the segment while also holding the title of being the oldest GM vehicles currently in production.

While GM’s vans were thought to be discontinued after the 2025 model year, the automaker then had plans to redesign the Chevy Express for the 2027 model year, keeping the ICE powertrain. However, a recent report by Autoweek indicates that The General may have canceled plans for any next-generation vans.

About Chevrolet Express

The 2024 Chevy Express arrives with two new transmissions, which are the only changes for the Passenger Van, Cargo Van, and Cutaway configurations. While the 2024 Chevy Express cargo van initially dropped the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, it is now available again. It joins the atmospheric 4.3L V6 LV1 gasoline engine as the only two powerplants offered in the 2024 Express. Check out the 2024 Chevy Express towing capacities.

Additionally, 2024 Chevy Express infotainment system upgrades are no longer available, leaving the 2024 Express with only one infotainment option: the base audio system consisting of the AM/FM stereo with an MP3 player. That system includes an auxiliary jack and two front-door speakers.

Contrary to some possibly widely held beliefs, the Express and Savana were tested in a wind tunnel.

  1. LOL!

Why won’t anyone do a story on why these are not available to the general population???

  2. GM clearly needs a regime change.

  3. It’s crazy, I see that 46% clogging dealer lots everywhere.

  4. All the vans on dealer lots are v6’s. Nobody that knows anything about vans or trucks wants less than 8 cylinders. If you think otherwise you shouldn’t buy a truck with a real frame. Trucks and vans with real frames carry heavy things and tow heavy loads. A normally aspirated V8 is the best longest lasting, most trouble free engine for that job. Just saying.

    1. That is correct. A guy once asked me if he should get a V-6 or A V-8. I told him if he gets a V-6 it would only work harder and have to rev more to do what a V-8 would do and wear out faster.

  5. I don’t get it. GMC make a much better looking van. I always liked the GMC van and that’s the one than has proven to be reliable to me and that’s the only one I would be interested in.
