The GM Authority Take

Chevrolet Brazil sales decreased in December 2022, representing the second consecutive month that sales were in the red. Much like in November, the decrease in December cost Chevy its second best-selling position in the Brazilian market, down one spot to third behind Volkswagen, which recorded 33,236 deliveries. Despite being in the red the last two months of 2022, the brand closed the calendar year with a very healthy double-digit growth rate.

The biggest drivers of Chevy Brazil’s sales decline in December were the Chevy Onix and Cruze, which cumulatively lost 3,874 units of volume on a year-over-year basis. Despite being the best-selling model in the entire Brazilian automotive market and achieving an improvement in monthly volume, the Onix could not surpass its own performance in December 2021. For its part, the Cruze recorded a significant downturn as a result of worsened availability in Brazil.

Four Chevrolet nameplates saw healthy gains last month, including the Chevy S10, Spin, Tracker, and TrailBlazer SUV. Thanks to a significant improvement in production, the Chevy Tracker achieved one of its best monthly sales results, strengthening its position as the best-selling crossover in Brazil both in December and during the entire 2022 calendar year.

Meanwhile, the S10 and Spin recorded growth rates of nearly 60 percent, with the Spin not only posting its highest volume total on for the year, but also on a monthly basis, in the past three years.
