Chevrolet Chile sales decreased six percent to 2,553 units in December 2022. The figures place Chevrolet as the second country’s best-selling automobile brand during the month, behind Toyota.

Chilean auto sales figures are limited since reporting only shows the best-selling models in each segment. As such, no sales data is available for vehicles that sell in lower volumes. Nevertheless, individual Chevy model sales performance (for models for which sales data is available) was as follows:

The GM Authority Take

Chevrolet Chile sales ended the last month of the 2022 calendar year in the red, further deepening the brand’s negative performance in the South American country where it has accumulated three consecutive months of declines. In fact, this drop cost Chevrolet the best-selling title in the Chilean auto market for the month, as Toyota moved 3,061 units. Even so, the Bowtie brand did end the year as Chile’s best-selling automobile brand, and by a good margin.

The drop in Chevrolet Chile sales during December was caused by lower sales volume of the Chevy Sail, which suffered a drastic 63 percent drop, sapping almost 500 units from its year-ago sales volume. Although it remained the best-seller of Chevy’s model portfolio for 2022, the brand’s entry car suffered a significant loss as the end of its commercial cycle grows closer.

In contrast, three nameplates posted healthy gains in December, including the Chevy Groove, Colorado, and its line of commercial trucks. The Groove entry-level small crossover was the brand’s best-selling model during the month, while the midsize pickup was the second best-seller.

Once again, the Chevy Silverado posted solid results, positioning it as the best-selling full-size pickup in Chile for the third consecutive month and for the entire 2022 calendar year.
